Emmerdale Lisa Riley’s love life – heartbreak, the one and friends with benefits
31st October 2023

Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley has played Mandy Dingle on the ITV soap on and off for almost three decades.

While Mandy has had her fair share of heartbreak over her 28 years on the show, it appears that the star's love life has been just as rocky.

In her 2013 autobiography, Lisa opened up about her disastrous love from her former lover coming out as gay to falling in love with a married man.

Daily Star has taken a look inside Lisa's personal love life away from the ITV cameras to see what her heart has been through.

Flatmate with benefits

In an extract from her autobiography, Never Judge A Book By Its Cover, Lisa recalls her disastrous dating history.

She reveals that she once flat-shared with her best friend called Darren who she "fancied like crazy".

They pair ended up sleeping together after a few drinks and became "friends with benefits" but she wanted more.

She later spotted Darren kissing a man in a nightclub and later got himself a boyfriend.

Con man

Lisa then fell for Lee Cooper and didn't think of question "how a guy on a waiter's salary could afford Gucci shoes".

10 months into their relationship, Lee confessed to Lisa that he had been accused of fraud.

He was later sentenced to three and a year years and Lisa writes in her book that her "whole world fell apart" and "everything crumbled".

Married man

Over Christmas 2002, Lisa appeared in a pantomime in Swansea and got chatting to set painter Nick Holly.

She says in her book that he "wasn't exactly an oil painting" and was nearly 10 years older than her.

Nick told Lisa he was married with kids but she writes that she was "ashamed to say I found the situation a little bit naughty and exciting".

After trying to make the relationship work outside the Panto bubble, things didn't go to plan for the pair and their relationship ended.

'Husband'

Lisa met American musican Al back in 2014 after the pair were put in touch via mutual friends.

He got down in one knee four years into their relationship but the couple are not in any rush to tie the knot.

Lisa is very secretive about her beau, not even revealing his surname, she often talks about him in interviews.

Speaking about her husband-to-be, the actress told the Mirror in 2020 said: "I already call him my husband and he calls me his wife.

We just haven't gone down the aisle and got the ring and the paperwork.

"In the six years we’ve been together, we’ve never spent as much time together as we have this year and we still love each other."
