June Brown was famous for bringing the role of Dot Cotton to life in BBC's long running soap EastEnders.

Known for her striking dark hair as well as her polished delivery of her lines, June became one of the longest serving characters in the soap appearing in 2,884 episodes in total.

Despite her vitality for life, at the age of 95 the world came to a halt when June was pronounced dead in April 2022.

But as soap viewers continue to mourn the loss of yet another TV legend, Daily Star has taken a look at who she decided to leave her fortune to when she passed away.

    Net worth

Before starring in the long-running BBC soap, June appeared on a number of well-known programmes such as Coronation Street and Doctor Who, to name a few.

But it was EastEnders which allowed her to amass her million pound fortune.

According to reports, it is believed that the actress had a sizeable net worth of between £1million and £3.8million at the time of her death.

In 2017, June was reportedly offered £300,000 for a one-year contract on the BBC drama after she decided to leave the show.

Talking about the offer, she said: "I don't want a retainer. I've left. I've left for good. I've sent myself to Ireland and that's where she'll stay.

"I've left EastEnders," she added while discussing her role on the Distinct Nostalgia podcast.

Following the death of her first husband John Garley, June went on to marry her second husband Robert Arnold in 1958.

The actress had six children with her husband Robert but her second daughter, Chloe sadly passed away at just a month old.

According to reports from The Sun at the time of June's death, the BBC star decided to split her remaining finances equally with her five children. It is believed she left almost £1million in her will.

At the time of June's death, her children released a statement which read: "We are deeply saddened to announce our beloved mother, June, passed away very peacefully at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening, with her family by her side.

"We would kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

    Legacy lives on

Last year, EastEnders incorporated the death of Dot Cotton into their story.

With characters such as Ian Beale and Lauren Branning returning to pay their tributes in moving scenes.

At the time of June's death in April, the show released a statement which read: "There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.

"June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2,884 episodes, June's remarkable performances created some of EastEnders' finest moments."
