Countryfile: Ellie Harrison helps to feed swifts
Countryfile fans reacted on Sunday as Ellie Harrison’s final episode of the BBC staple aired. After 13 years on the programme, Ellie announced she would be leaving in October.
During the latest programme, Ellie’s time on the show was reflected on in a recap of her many adventures on the series. Co-host Anita Rani told her: “Ellie, I probably shouldn’t say this since you are leaving after 13 years… But it is one of the best gigs on TV.”
Responding, Ellie announced: “It is, it’s a gift. I feel like I’ve just been super lucky, you know. It’s the best gig in the world, really.”
“Yeah, especially on days like today,” Anita replied as the pair took a seat on a log lying on a sandy beach. She went on: “I want to take you back to your first ever episode.”
“I can remember that,” Ellie replied, adding: “It was in May 2010, and it was in Snowdon, it was my first one so I was quite nervous. I got there four hours early to location!”

“Shall we remind ourselves? I’ve got it here,” Anita continued before playing a segment of Ellie’s debut episode.
“The reason we’re here at Poole Harbour is because you love the water,” Anita told Ellie. She asked: “What is it about the water that you love so much?”
“My mum grew up by the sea so she got me into swimming really young, I was doing it when I was two/three, so I just feel very comfortable in that space.”

Ellie and Anita then watched more footage showing the highlights of Ellie’s Countryfile career. Before the episode ended, Anita showed Ellie recorded messages from an array of co-stars bidding her farewell.
She fought back tears listening to her many colleagues sharing their memories of working with Ellie and bidding her farewell. Fans tuned in were also sorry to see Ellie go, and some even threatened to boycott the show.
