Corrie's Stephanie Beacham confronted by 'hammer-wielding burglar' at her home
6th January 2023

Coronation Street star Stephanie Beacham is said to have been involved in a terrifying ordeal after a break-in at her home.

The soap star, 75, was confronted by an intruder wielding a hammer at her abode in Bayswater, West London, a court has heard.

It’s believed that jewellery, keys, a cheque book, purse and mobile phone were stolen in the raid at her £750,000 property.

As a result, 56-year-old David Wilson has been charged with aggravated burglary and robbery from September 25.

His trial was set to start on February 8, but he made an appearance at Southwark Crown Court on Friday (January 6).

The defendant denies the charges against him, which state that he entered the actress’ home ‘as a trespasser’ in a bid to steal her possessions.

His charges also say that, ‘at the time of the commission of the burglary’, Wilson had ‘a weapon of offence, namely a hammer’.

Wilson remains in custody, with Corrie star Stephanie expected to be called to testify as a witness.

Stephanie recently made a grand return to the famous cobbles, reprising her character of Martha after first appearing in 2009.

She slotted back into her role seamlessly, and it wasn’t long before she was stirring up trouble for old flame Ken Barlow (William Roache).

The pair reunited during rehearsals for the AmDram play, with Martha on hand to guide Mary (Patti Clare) through her lines.

However, the tension was clear from the beginning, as the two exes grew close once more, despite Ken simultaneously romancing Wendy, with the pair later humiliating him during a live performance.

Alas, their reunion was short-lived, as Martha broke the news to Ken that she was set to start rehearsals on a new play in Hull.

As well as her role on the much-loved soap, Stephanie has achieved worldwide fame, with other acting credits including Sable Colby in Dynasty.

She starred in 23 episodes of the classic US drama opposite Joan Collins and John Forsythe.

Stephanie then went on to appear in 49 episodes of Dynasty spin-off show The Colbys.

The TV icon has also starred in BBC drama Tenko and has made guest appearances in shows including Bad Girls and Casualty.
