Coronation Street wins all three TV Choice soap awards
6th September 2021

Coronation Street has picked up all three soap trophies at the TV choice Awards, it has been confirmed.

The popular serial fought tough competition from fellow continuing dramas Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and EastEnders to pick up the win for Best Soap.

In addition to winning Best Soap, Corrie’s Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin, picked up the victory for Best Soap Actress, while Roy Cropper star David Neilson won Best Soap Actor.

It’s been quite a year for Corrie, which aired the culmination of the hard-hitting coercive control storyline, that saw Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) bully wife Yasmeen (Shelley King) for the best part of two years.

The long-running drama also celebrated it’s 60th anniversary back in December, with a special hour-long instalment that saw the residents of the eponymous street band together to save their beloved cobbles.

Seb Franklin’s (Harry Visinoni) demise at the hands of Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) has had the nation talking.

Corey violently killed Seb back in May, when he and mates Eli and Jay set upon Seb and girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) in a brutal hate crime attack.

Seb was knocked to the floor, as was Nina.

Nina made a run for it, and found herself on the receiving end of a beating from Jay and Eli, while Corey stayed behind and repeatedly kicked Seb.

Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson), who was also present on the night of the assault, pleading with Corey to stop, and even attempted to pull him away from Seb, but Corey was hellbent on violence.

Nina was initially unable to remember what transpired on that horrific evening, but last week saw her memories restored ahead of the trial, allowing her enough time to make a new statement.
