WEATHERFIELD stalwart Gail Platt has been living through quieter times in the cobbles.
However, Coronation Street viewers are growing increasingly frustrated to see her in comedic storylines.
Making her first appearance in the Manchester-based soap in 1974, Helen Worth became a familiar face on the box as Audrey Roberts' daughter Gail Platt.
In almost four decades, the 71-year-old actress has been at the core of some of the most dramatic and crucial storylines from exploring her relationship with her mother to surviving Richard Hillman's murderous antics.
Speaking of which, Gail's rocky love life (and six marriages) has also given ITV viewers many jaw-dropping moments.
However, the Platt matriarch has taken more of a backseat from the drama in recent years, most notably watching her son David cope with troublemaker Max Turner.

During Monday's trip to the cobbles, she was seen trying to learn Italian before getting embroiled in a new storyline involving her long-term foe Eileen Grimshaw (played by Sue Cleaver).
The Underworld machinist was carrying Glenda Shuttleworth's pumpkins to the Rovers pub when she tripped on them and knocked herself out.
Undertaker George Shuttleworth tended to an unconscious Eileen and she was taken to hospital.
Her unusually calm state left George scratching his head when she regained consciousness – just as Corrie fans swarmed over to Twitter, wishing Gail was more involved in serious storylines.

Fans have felt the need for Gail to rekindle with her feisty nature.
"Why has GAIL turned into a doddery wimpy old woman with a pathetic little voice? Just stop! Bring back the old feisty Gail!!", one viewer demanded soap bosses.
Another complained: "Poor legendary characters like Gail and Eileen having a scene that involves one getting hurt by pumpkins when boring characters like Summer and Stephen dominate the storylines."
Stephen Reid, who happens to be Gail's half-brother, became the newest villain to look out for after killing Leo Thompkins.

A third soap fan chimed in: "Why are you Corrie making Gail a laughing stock? She's always been a strong character, not a dithering wreck!"
"Why have they turned Gail into an utter moron?", another echoed.
As mentioned above, Gail has been standing on the side-lines as her mother Audrey struggled with her mental health amid a devastating suicide attempt storyline.
Drama in Weatherfield has most recently involved Stephen Reid but also Summer Spellman, who recently found out she was pregnant.
