COME Dine with Me fans were all left saying the same thing about narrator Dave Lamb after he pronunciation of a town in Newcastle.

The Channel 4 series and voiceover king Dave have become synonymous with one another since the programme first aired in 2005.


Monday evening's episode saw three well known local restaurants battle it out in a new instalment of Come Dine with Me: The Professionals.

However, soon into proceedings, narrator Dave came under fire from Geordie viewers to tuned into the north east based episode.

Competing against each other were Namaste from Sunniside, North Shields’ Pigalo’s and Prudhoe based chippy Balls.

And it was Dave’s pronunciation of Prudhoe which causes a stir online as locals watched at home.

Dave exaggerated the ‘u’ as ‘ooo,’ calling it 'Proo-doh,' in stark contrast to how residents say it.

Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled Geordie posted: "Never heard such an odd way of saying Prudhoe. And believe me, I've heard some belters."

Echoing their comments, someone else said: "Dave Lamb has just pronounced Prudhoe as 'Proodhoe' – it's 'Prudah'."

While a third remarked: “Every Northumbrian just had a tiny violent reaction.”

After a hotly contested battle between the three restaurants, it was Balls who triumphed after the scores were delivered.

And the result generated quite a response on social media.

In reference to a certain Midlands fish and chip shop becoming a viral sensation, one fan wrote: "I hope Balls of Prudhoe becomes the new Bingley Mega Chippy.
