TV presenter AJ Odudu and her Strictly Come Dancing pro partner Kai Widdrington have been setting the dance floor alight all series long. And with the finale just a matter of weeks away, the BBC dancing duo joined Harry Judd and Lauren Laverne on Friday’s The One Show to discuss their time on the series as well as their upcoming Paso Doble to Ruelle’s Game of Survival on Saturday. However, AJ also revealed that an injury from years gone by has begun wreaking havoc on her preparations.

Considering their near-flawless performances week after week, including a score of 39 in Week Seven for their Charleston, fans would be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t anything holding AJ back.

But after watching a highlights package of her time so far on Strictly on The One Show, the presenter came clean.

“I’m beaming watching that all back,” AJ admitted after watching herself perform with Kai.

The One Show’s Lauren then chimed in: “AJ, it’s unbelievable to think that before you’d done this, you’d never done any dancing at all,

“Apart from dancing to the Strictly theme tune and apparently that didn’t go very well?”

“It didn’t go very well,” AJ replied before revealing the extent of an injury she sustained when doing so.

She continued: “I ended up breaking my toe on the disco ball!

“And that broken toe is coming back to haunt me each and every week, let me tell you. Oh, my gosh, my feet are killing!”

Curious to know the extent of the mishap, Lauren asked: “Which little piggy was it?”

The Strictly star answered: “It’s my big toe on my right foot.

“So if you ever see anything dodgy going on, that’s what it’s all about,” AJ caveated.

Despite the injury, AJ remained in high spirits: “But honestly, I’m having the best time, it’s so much fun, even just watching back those dances, I just can’t believe that’s me.”

Former Strictly champion Harry concurred: “I can’t either – she’s annoyingly good.”

The quartet shared a laugh before The One Show hosts delved into Kai’s beginnings as a dancer as well as their hopes for Saturday evening.

While AJ and Kai look poised to make the final, heading into Saturday night there are a few names who look set to face the dreaded dance-off.

Following Adam Peaty and Katya Jones’ exit last week, bookies are now backing either Dan Walker or Sara Davies to leave next.

Coral bookmakers has the BBC Breakfast and Dragons’ Den stars both at 7/4 to face the chop.

Spokesperson John Hill said: “Dan Walker and Sara Davies are in the most danger of being eliminated this weekend and indeed could face each other in the dance-off, according to our betting.”

But at the other end of the odds, EastEnders’ Rose Ayling-Ellis looks the one to beat.

“[Rose] continues to shorten in our betting for the Glitterball Trophy. In a year where the standard has been incredible, she tops the betting ahead of AJ Odudu and John Whaite respectively.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:40pm on BBC One.
