Beyond Paradise: Humphrey Goodman returns to Caribbean
Beyond Paradise’s first season will be coming to an end on BBC One with episode six. The finale will see Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) contemplate his future as he makes a return to Saint Marie in a Death in Paradise crossover. Ahead of the show airing, bosses Tony Jordan and Tim Key spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and other press about the show’s future.
Will there be a season 2 of Beyond Paradise?
Fans of the series were heartbroken when Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) called off the couple’s engagement in the penultimate episode.
A teaser for the finale showed Humphrey contemplating returning to the Met in London, as he could not face seeing Martha after their argument.
Following the episode, the BBC revealed Humphrey would return to Guadeloupe for a special Death in Paradise crossover.
Although details have been kept under wraps, viewers are hoping to see him reunite with some fan-favourite characters.
As for what direction the show is heading in, bosses Tony Jordan and Tim Key gave an exciting update.
On whether they hoped for a second season, Tim said: “Absolutely, we will run and run and run.
“As long as the audience love it and we love making it.
“Tony is literally writing, he’s broken away from writing series two.
“It hasn’t been greenlit but the minute that it is, we are ready, we are poised.”
He said they already have a full season of cases on the cards to explore if the BBC chooses to renew.
He added: “So we have got loads of stories to tell, we have got six episodes mapped out for season two already.
“The cast are really keen to get going again so our dream scenario will be we keep going, definitely.”
Tony went on to explain how he was very passionate about writing the characters.
He said: “I love writing this show, the characters are a joy to write for.

“The way we tell stories, the way we can do proper grown-up drama alongside silly fart jokes if we need to.
“We can do everything and that’s really freeing as a writer, I definitely want to go again.”
Viewers will have to wait and see whether the BBC gives a second season the green light.
However, judging by the show’s success, it is extremely likely fans will see the couple in Shipton Abbott once more.
The BBC teased an “emotional” finale on Twitter, saying: “Just when you thought DI Humphrey Goodman was Beyond Paradise…
“You won’t want to miss the emotional series finale on Friday 7 April from 8pm on @BBCOne and @BBCiPlayer.”
Fans took to the comments calling for a series renewal, with Lifeandirene saying: “Hold on: Series finale? We invested in the beyond part, see him get settled and hurt in series 1, to see him shine in series 2….. not just the one series…” [Sic]
BDB added: “Only 1 more left ?? Are you kidding me? We need more Humphrey and Martha. PS last night’s episode left me in pieces.”
Beyond Paradise airs on Fridays on BBC One at 8pm.
