BAKE Off is back, to the delight of baking fans across the country.
Hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas kicked off the new series with Cake Week – and as usual, the coveted prize of Star Baker was up to grabs.
Bake Off 2020 – who was Star Baker last night?
Peter Sawkins was crowned Bake Off 2020's first ever Star Baker, a very significant accolade.
The 20-year-old Edinburgh student impressed the judges from the outset.
On trying Peter's attempt at a Battenberg, Paul gave his seal of approval.
Peter explained that watching Bake Off actually inspired him to start getting creative in the kitchen, and has been passionate about baking since he was just 12.
Peter even impressed in the technical challenge (a difficult feat) with his perfectly-formed pineapple upside-down cake.
On tasting it, Prue had high praise indeed. She told him: “No quarrel with that at all”.
For the showstopper challenge, the contestants were asked to create a 3D edible bust of their favourite celebrity.
Peter decided to create a bust of fellow Scot and cycling hero Chris Hoy – complete with helmet and goggles.
When is Bake Off 2020 next on?
The second episode of Bake Off will air on September 29, 2020 at 8pm.
After that, it will air at 8pm every Tuesday.
