LW: Sara Davies says Amy Dowden didn’t want chemotherapy
Amy Dowden’s close friend, Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies, claimed how the dancer was initially reluctant to undergo chemotherapy for her cancer treatment. Strictly Come Dancing star Amy was diagnosed with grade III breast cancer earlier this year.
Due to her treatment, she couldn’t take part in this year’s BBC competition but has still been able to appear as a guest. Monday saw Sara talking about her friend on Loose Women, where she explained Amy’s initial concerns.
“I know you’re friends with Amy Dowden, lovely, beautiful Amy from Strictly,” Ruth Langsford stated.
“And she was rather reluctant wasn’t she at first? To have chemotherapy.”
“Do you know, I was with her when she was making that decision,” Sara replied.

She continued: “And I remember because she’d had the mastectomy straight away – I know she’s been on the show talking about it – she kind of felt like, ‘Well, they’ve taken it away so that’s finished, that’s the end of it.
“‘I don’t want to have chemo because I don’t want to lose my hair, I won’t be able to dance on Strictly this year.’
“But the doctors were saying she should. And I said, ‘Amy, if the doctors are saying you should, you really need to do it.'”
Recalling the conversation, she explained how Amy had argued: “‘Well, I don’t need to do it.’

“I said, ‘Amy it’s like a life-changing thing… If this is what they say, you really need to embrace this.’
“And I can see it, the chemotherapy was as terrifying as the other C word she was dealing with in her life, and you forget that.”
Ruth responded: “And the after-effects… And she did lose her hair but there she is on Strictly, we see her looking amazing.”
“Looking fabulous! She just looks incredible,” Sara enthused.
Last week, Amy thanked Neil Jones for supporting her during her latest health setback.
Last Sunday, the 33-year-old uploaded a series of chatty videos to Instagram.
During the candid conversation, she addressed her recent health struggles and also thanked fans for sending their well-wishes.
Amy revealed that she was struggling to inject herself with blood-thinning drugs. After claiming that they “sting”, she gave a shout-out to fellow Strictly professional, Neil.
“So big shout out to Mr Neil Jones who helped me last night,” she remarked.
“It’s like a proper bee-sting. I’ve had so many people message me and say: ‘Yeah they’re nasty, aren’t they?'”
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
