DAVID Henry is a professional bodybuilder who also served in the US military.

But when did he start bodybuilding and what competitions has he won?

Who is bodybuilder David Henry?

David Henry was born in Denver, Colorado on February 24, 1975.

He is a professional bodybuilder and member of the American International Federation of BodyBuilders (IFBB).

Both of his parents were in the military — his father serving as a pilot, and his mother as a member of the Air Force Base Commissariat.

Henry also served in the United States Air Force, climbing through the ranks up to Master Sergeant, before retiring in August 2014.

On the subject of making rank, he told MuscleandFitness.com: “I wanted to rank ahead of my time in service before I retired.

"My whole thing was getting to master sergeant well before it was time to retire.

“I did it, man. I hit all ranks first time out, master sergeant took me some time to make, but I made it at my 16-year mark.

"That was a big personal achievement for me.”

Speaking about his hobbies, David told IronmanMagazine.com he enjoys: “Riding my motorcycle, taking my guns to the shooting range and playing my drums.”

Henry said his life philosophy is: “Treat others the way you would like to be treated. The world would be a much nicer place if everybody simply did that.”

He added: “Now that I’m in the public eye, I have people telling me that they have been inspired to achieve goals by what I have done, that they look up to me.

"I don’t want to let them down by being anything less than what I can be, and I don’t want to let myself down.”

When did David Henry start bodybuilding?

David took up bodybuilding when he was 16 after watching the Arnold Schwarznegger documentary Pumping Iron.

Henry told Ironman: “I was a track-and-field athlete in high school and was extremely lean and muscular.

"At age 16 I competed in my first bodybuilding contest, long before I’d even lifted my first weight, and placed third in the men’s novice lightweight division.

"That told me that I probably had pretty decent potential.”

When asked about his bodybuilding goals, David said: “My main goal used to be to place in the top 10 at the Mr. Olympia, which I did.

"Now that the IFBB has instituted the 202 class, my goal is to be the best 202-pound bodybuilder in the world.

"I am glad they have provided this option for those of us who will never be quite as large and heavy as Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman.”
