Reports: Kliff Kingsbury will be next offensive coordinator at Southern California
5th December 2018

Former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury will be the next offensive coordinator at Southern California, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Kingsbury, 39, was fired on Nov. 25 after six seasons as the head coach at his alma mater, where he led the Red Raiders to three bowl appearances and a 35-40 overall record. The team finished with a losing record in his last three seasons.

Now, the former Texas Tech and NFL quarterback will be charged with helping engineer an offensive resurgence in Los Angeles for head coach Clay Helton, whose job security was in question at the end of the regular season.

The Trojans finished 5-7 this year and were tied for 90th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in scoring offense, averaging 26.1 points per game.

Kingsbury will take over for former USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin, who was ousted last week. Quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis also left to become the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky, one of several staffing changes at USC prior to 2019.

The Athletic first reported Kingsbury's hiring Tuesday morning.
