In this week’s Sports Agenda, the Glazers’ willingness to sell was outlined. For the right price, they will part with the asset they have – controversially – owned since 2005.

The way this has moved on has been quite startling in its pace. At the beginning of the month it sounded as though any takeover could be off for the foreseeable, before all parties were invited to attend Old Trafford for talks.

Those supposedly went well, which has led to tonight’s latest deadline.

The Glazers reportedly want close to £6bn for the club. Whether or not any party gets close to that figure remains to be seen.

Second bids for Manchester United have to be lodged by 9pm on Wednesday night — with the club set to be sold for a world-record fee should the Glazers accept one of the offers.

Those who want to buy the club outright, or make a partial investment, were on Tuesday night finalising their bids ahead of a significant day.

The Qatar-based Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani bid, revealed by Sportsmail, is still the favourite, although a rival offer from Sir Jim Ratcliffe is gathering momentum.

Good evening and welcome to tonight’s live coverage of the Manchester United takeover as the latest bid deadline approaches at 9pm UK time.

The favourites to takeover remain Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is looking to buy out just the Glazers’ 69 per cent stake in the club, and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani who is bidding to purchase the club outright.

Despite being the two main names in the frame, there are rumblings of other names in the hat. Raine, the US merchant bank handling the sale for the Glazer family, will be delighted about that.

Follow along for all updates as the deadline draws nearer and nearer.
