Man Utd scout Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong with Erik ten Hag targeting transfer for ex-Celtic wonderkid | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED have sent scouts to watch Jeremie Frimpong, reports claim.

Frimpong, 21, is in strong form for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen with five goals in 11 league appearances, sparking widespread interest in his services.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, United are among the keener sides who have sent scouts to watch him, despite his contract not expiring until 2025.

He has already been picked as a part of the initial Holland squad for the World Cup, with up to 55 players able to be selected before it gets cut down to 26.

Frimpong, who can play as a right-back or a right-winger, joined his current club in January 2021 where he has since scored seven times and registered 12 assists in 62 games.

Prior to his move to Germany, Frimpong enjoyed a stint with Scottish champions Celtic.

With the Glaswegian giants, Frimpong returned a record of three goals and eight assists playing mostly from right-back.

He picked up some trophies too – winning the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup.

However, United fans who peer even further back will notice that he is a product of local rivals Manchester City.

Not that such a factor has stopped them from completing transfers in the past- with the example of winger Jadon Sancho coming to mind.

Erik ten Hag has continuously emphasised the need for quality depth in his squad.

Frimpong's versatility is likely to be very useful considering United are not currently blessed with a deep pool of quality up front and seemingly have no use for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has played just four minutes under Ten Hag.

And with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo expected to leave the club soon, Ten Hag will be urging the board to bring in reinforcements.
