Luke Humphries responds to darts haters who say ‘you’ve got no personality’
19th November 2023

Luke Humphries hit back at his social media critics after storming to his second major darts title in a matter of weeks.

After finally ending his duck on the big stage by taking the World Grand Prix last month, Cool Hand struck again with an imperious display in the final of the Grand Slam. Humphries produced a performance for the ages in the Wolverhampton showpiece, beating Rob Cross 16-8.

The scoreline was harsh on Cross, who was excellent in averaging 103. However, he was no match for Humphries, now regarded as the best player on the planet at present and favourite for the upcoming World Championship at Alexandra Palace.

However, it seems he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea judging by comments on social media, with some fans accusing the 28-year-old of lacking personality. Humphries wasn’t bothered by any of that noise as he basked in claiming the Eric Bristow Trophy for the first time.

“It feels just as good,” said the Berkshire thrower. “I was just happy to make a second major final this year. I can do it on the big stage, I promise!

“I feel like a new player. I always dreamed of being up on this stage. I'm very blessed and happy to be a two-time major champion.

“I keep reading on social media that I have no personality, but I don’t mind having no personality while I’m winning these.”

Cross, who underlined his own Ally Pally credentials with a strong week in Wolverhampton, said: "The best man won on the night, no doubt about it – he was fantastic.

“I gave it my best but I lost to the better man – he played great. Sometimes you don't always get what you want in life, and sometimes you have to take it on the chin. It's a little bit hurtful to lose but he was excellent tonight.

“I've had a good week and I'll come back. I'm playing great at the minute and I'm in a really good place. I'll regroup and go into next week with the ambitions to win that.”
