Erling Haaland was asked for his shirt at half-time by a BSC Young Boys player in an unusual twist on footballing etiquette – and his reaction was telling.

Captain Mohamed Ali Camara approached the Manchester City striker before they headed down the tunnel and requested his shirt.

Haaland replied ‘you cannot do this’ but proceeded to hand the defender his shirt before they went their separate ways.

Often players swap shirts at full-time but in recent years it has not been so common for players to request such a keepsake from an opposing player mid-game.

He had already scored once as Pep Guardiola’s men went into the break 2-0 up, but he scored a stunner after half-time to make it 3-0, which became the final result.

‘You should ask him for his jersey after that one,’ quipped TNT Sports co-commentator Ally McCoist after he rifled a finish into the top corner.

Camara marked Haaland during his time on the pitch, but he was probably glad to see him withdrawn after his two goals.

With a demanding schedule upcoming, Haaland was substituted on the hour mark for fellow countryman Oscar Bobb.

City’s next three games are against Chelsea – fresh from a 4-1 win over Tottenham – Liverpool, and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Next month, they face Spurs and Aston Villa to round off a tricky five-match run.

They are back at the top of the Premier League after beating Bournemouth 6-1 this weekend and due to Spurs’ loss at home to Chelsea – Ange Postecoglou’s first Premier League defeat.
