EDDIE HEARN has promised Billy Joe Saunders a “monster fight” in 2020 ahead of his return to the ring.
The WBO super middleweight champion defends his belt Argentinian Marcelo Esteban Coceres on November 9 on a DAZN card headlined by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul in USA.
Many fans have mocked Saunders, 30, for agreeing to make his US bow on the undercard of the novelty showdown.
But his promoter believes victory against the 28-0 South American will get him right in the mix for shots at Canelo Alvarez or Gennadiy Golovkin next year.
Hearn said: “I can’t wait to see Billy Joe shine stateside and what a huge platform to do it.
“He is right in the mix for all the big fights in 2020 but he can’t slip up here and if he can make a statement against Coceres then I truly believe he will land a monster in the first half of next year.”
Canelo or GGG at 160 or 168lbs would be an ideal big fight for Saunders.
So would a mega unification showdown with WBA (Super) and Ring super-middleweight champ Callum Smith.
But for now the boxer is trying to remain focused on not suffering the same fate as Anthony Joshua did on his Stateside debut.
Saunders said: “I’m really looking forward to fighting in LA and making my professional American debut and my first fight under the Matchroom umbrella on DAZN and Sky Sports.
“Marcelo Esteban Coceres is a tough, world-class operator, an unbeaten fighter and I certainly feel the pressure to outperform him and look good on such a massive platform.
“Training is going very well, I just have to stay focused and get the job done.”
