PDC World Darts Championship debutant Danny 'The Mullet' Jansen was described as 'phenomenal' by fans – but not for his quality at the oche.

Instead, the 20-year-old wowed fans with his choice of haircut. The Dutchman took on Paolo Nebrida at the Ally Pally sporting a good old fashioned mullet, which the Sky commentary team said live on air was "either the best or worst" haircut in the tournament.

It didn't hinder him progressing though, in a contest that stumbled from the sublime to the ridiculous. Jansen missed six match darts, and relinquished a two set lead, before finally winning the match by taking out double 11.

"The Mullet. I’m f***in gone," wrote @6xDJP, with a couple of laughing emojis. "This dart player nicknamed 'The Mullet' I don't think he thought that through, he’s gonna have to sport that awful hair do for the rest of his career, idiot," joked @stevieEvs82.

"World Championship MULLET! Danny Jansen looking good," wrote @HighRollerRadio, while @FinCFC quipped: "The mullet on the darts is f***ing phenomenal." @interzone_x replied with "proper barnet."

As the contest got tight, still fans online were inly concerned about one thing. @JackInPogForm wrote: "Serious mullet game in the darts," and @PhilB1985 posted: "Not a lot of places to go when you’ve got the nickname the mullet is there."

Does Danny Jansen need to find a barbers before the next round? Let us know in the comments section.

The world No 83 will be showing off his hair style again on Thursday, when he takes on Krzysztof Ratajski of Poland. But this time he'll be a clear outsider, with Ratajski 65 places better off in the world order.

Jansen is in the same half of the draw as defending champion Peter Wright, and hopes are high that he can continue the rich legacy of Dutch darts. Michael van Gerwen is the favourite amongst many to bag a fourth world crown in London.

Fair to say that 'The Green Machine' doesn't have the same hairstyle problem as Jansen though, who has certainly found a way to catch the attention of fans. But he'll need to be more stylish with his doubles than he is with his appearance if he wants to win again this week.
