Conor McGregor reveals first ever conversation with Dana White aged just 16 and why UFC chief 'just walked off'

CONOR McGREGOR has revealed his first ever conversation with Dana White did not go down well – as the UFC president 'just walked off'.

McGregor, who was 16 at the time and a year prior to his MMA debut, travelled to Manchester to watch UFC 70 – headlined by Michael Bisping.

There, he famously surprised octagon legend Chuck Lidell and took a legendary picture.

But what many didn't know was McGregor also met his future boss, despite White not taking much notice of the charismatic Irishman.

In McGregor's first ESPN interview, in 2014, he said:  “When I was 16 years old, I was at my first UFC event as a fan.

"After the event, Dana stays and takes pictures with the fans. I ran down to the railings and I seen Dana and I was like, ‘Dana, Dana.’

“He looked at me… 'How much money have you got in your pocket right now this second?’

“He looked at me with like a weird face and then just kind of walked off.

“So, I don’t think he liked that too much, but it was fun. I was just a little kid dreaming of the big time.”

Interestingly enough, McGregor at the time was speaking ahead of fighting Dustin Poirier.

He went on to win in round one – but fast forward to 2021 and the pair are set to rematch.

McGregor, 32, faces Poirier, 31, on January 23 as their headliner takes to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

Since the former two-weight champion's first encounter with White, the two have enjoyed a rollercoaster relationship.

No one has earned as much money or notoriety in the UFC than McGregor, fast becoming White's biggest star since his 2013 debut.

But more recently, the pair had a fallout this summer after McGregor leaked messages from the promoter, after he was accused of not wanting to fight.

White responded by calling it the 'one of the dirtiest things you can do'.

Despite the animosity, the two managed to patch things up as McGregor came to terms and agreed to fight Poirier in the UFC's first event of the new year.
