Chelsea ratings: Ziyech endures worst match for Blues and Abraham subbed off too late for Giroud in draw with Tottenham
29th November 2020

CHELSEA drew 0-0 with Tottenham in a cagey affair at Stamford Bridge.

Reece James was the Blues' brightest spark while Tammy Abraham was fairly blunt in attack.

Spurs moved top of the Premier League while the Blues stay third with the point.

Timo Werner had a goal disallowed in the first-half for offside but the rest of the game played out in fairly edgy fashion.

And here's what Simon Phillips thought of the Blues' individual performances.

Edouard Mendy – 7

Had a fairly quiet afternoon apart from a couple of half chances from Spurs.

Chelsea had most the possession and Spurs defended deep, meaning Mendy was largely a sweeper keeper.

Reece James – 8

He produced perfect cross after perfect cross and was robbed of an assist or two once again.

James was one of Chelsea's biggest attacking threats, but could not penetrate Mourinho's 'deep lying-block.'

Kurt Zouma – 7

Solid at the back from Zouma once again and he made a number of important blocks and interceptions at crucial points of the game.

Thiago Silva – 7

The captain was very calm and composed and was always looking for that forward pass.

Didn't have too much defending to do but he dealt with any threat well.

Ben Chilwell – 7

Did the basics very well but there wasn't often a lot on for him in advanced areas due to the numbers that Spurs were defending with.

N'Golo Kante – 8

He was everywhere again as we have come to expect from Kante.

The Frenchman broke up a number of Spurs attacks and was also very good in bringing the ball out of danger for Chelsea.

Mateo Kovacic – 7

He was pretty quiet again and was often guilty of not tracking runners as he has been on occasion recently.

But on the ball he was fantastic again and was a real asset when bringing it out of danger.

Mason Mount – 8

He looked to try and make things happen often and was a threat for Chelsea.

He even had a late long-range effort almost hit the back of the net but it was saved well by Lloris.

Hakim Ziyech – 5 (subbed off 82 mins)

Ziyech struggled to find his usual passing range today and struggled as a result.

It was probably his worst game in a Chelsea shirt so far.

Timo Werner – 6 (subbed 73 mins)

Werner looked lively on the left, but he was often double marked.

He scored a great goal in the first half but he was unfortunately offside.

Overall a quiet game.

Tammy Abraham – 5 (subbed 78 mins)

He didn't do enough really and Chelsea fans were calling for Olivier Giroud to come on earlier in the game.

Had a couple of chances to get on the end of a James cross but he fluffed it.

Was subbed off for Giroud far too late in the game.

Christian Pulisic (replaced Werner) – 6

Long time out injured and didn't have a lot of time to shine tonight.

Olivier Giroud (replaced Abraham) – N/A

Not enough time to make an impact.

Kai Havertz (replaced Ziyech) – N/A

Not enough time to make an impact.
