BBC Commentator Jonathan Pearce has been slammed on social media after he was hear muttering in the background during France’s Women’s World Cup clash against Morocco on Tuesday.
The organisation has already been forced to apologise at the World Cup after one of their world service journalists asked Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak an inappropriate question at a press conference.
They could now be made to issue another apology after Pearce bumbled his way through the French national anthem as Les Bleus players lined up inside the Hindmarsh Stadium.
As ‘La Marseillaise’ blasted out inside the venue, Pearce began to speak and was broadcasted over the footage as he appeared to converse with another person working on the BBC’s coverage.
He was heard asking ‘was I on air there?’ during the broadcast while other unintelligible comments were also made in the broadcast that saw the French national anthem largely drowned out.

Unimpressed viewers were quick to point out the embarrassing error and criticised the BBC for unprofessionalism during fuming online exchanges.
One post on Twitter read: ‘Quite a unique rendition of the French national anthem featuring Jonathan Pearce.’
Another unhappy supporter stated: ‘Someone tell Jonathan Pearce it’s disrespectful to speak during a national anthem.’
A third explained: ‘I’ve always felt what the French national anthem was missing was Jonathan Pearce muttering in the background.’
Others offered BBC advice as they mockingly stated: ‘Someone needs to tell Jonathan Pearce his mic is still on.’
It’s not the first time the 63-year-old commentator has had mistakes pointed out by the public after he previously described Liverpool as Champions before they had won a first Premier League title.
Another example also saw him mislabel a previous World Cup clash in 2018 as an FA Cup tie.
France went on to win their knockout stage clash with Morocco 4-0 and advance to the quarter-finals.
