    Hector Bellerin – 2

Had a torrid time marking Grealish – the England star will give him nightmares for weeks.

The overlap by Matt Targett caused him issues throughout with Villa doubling up on the left.

Looked good going forward in the first half but appeared exhausted in the second and Villa milked it for all it’s worth.

    PITY PARTEY

Arsenal suffered a major injury blow as Thomas Partey was subbed off at half-time against Aston Villa.

The £45million signing had earned rave reviews for his performance in the 1-0 win against Manchester United last week.

But the Ghana international did not immediately emerge with the rest of the Arsenal team after the break against Aston Villa.

With his side trailing 1-0, it was then announced the defensive midfielder would be replaced by Dani Ceballos.

Reports inside the ground pointed to a possible thigh injury sustained in the first-half.

It is not yet clear how serious the injury is, although Partey later took his place on the Arsenal bench.

    NO NELSON

Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson should return to full training next week having picked up a knock in training.

They have announced that Nelson suffered bruising to his right knee in training before Thursday’s game with Molde, so he will miss out against Aston Villa today too.

Nelson will allegedly aim to return to full training next week, meaning Arsenal will hope to have him fit and available after the international break.

    BETTER BELLERIN

Mikel Arteta says Hector Bellerin is growing in confidence now that his body is allowing him to perform more consistently.

Bellerin has provided four assists in 10 appearances this season for Arsenal.

He had surgery on his ACL in January 2019 but Arteta is pleased with his recent progress.

Arteta said: “I think when you have a big injury like that it can take almost a year for your brain to reset and accept that injury and biomechanically become the same player.

“After that you have to recover and rediscover those performances, that consistency in the minutes you are able to play, which is something he has struggled with in recent years, but when something starts to get more natural, you start to get the flow.

“He is more confident, he is playing regularly, he is able to do more things, he ends the game in a much better way physically and he recovers better. What happens, happens, but his performances are getting better and better.”

    GREALISH RUMOUR

Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has sparked excitement amongst Arsenal fans by singing their praises on social media.

Following a previous Premier League clash between the two sides at the Emirates Stadium, the 25-year-old posted a picture of him in action, with the caption: “Pleasure to play at this place.

“My favourite stadium in the Prem.”

    XHAKA ADMISSION

Granit Xhaka has admitted he was resigned to leaving Arsenal after clashing with his own supporters last year, and the only reason he is still at the club today is down to Mikel Arteta.

Xhaka, 28, conceded that his ‘heart was already gone’ from Arsenal.

When Arteta arrived in December, he promised to give all players a clean slate, and despite being linked with a January move to Hertha Berlin, Xhaka ended up staying at the club.

Xhaka said: “I was completely surprised by this. I am a person, I have emotions, things hurt me too.

“I didn’t go to training for two days, wondering what happened in the first place. My heart was already gone from the club. The fact that I’m still there today is thanks to coach Mikel Arteta.”

    ARTETA DECISION

Mikel Arteta says he stands by his decision to sell keeper Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

Martinez duly joined Villa in a deal worth £20m and Arteta says he stands by his decision.

He said: “No [I have no regrets]. When we sat down and we believed it was the right thing to do.

“He was still very willing to get the No.1 shirt and play regularly but we had to give him the choice to decide where he wanted to play.”

    PARTEY PART

Arsenal's summer signing Thomas Partey is more than capable of playing for Liverpool, Manchester United or Manchester City, according to Paul Merson.

Merson is delighted at Partey's start at the Emirates and is surprised that Liverpool or Manchester City didn't try to sign him.

Merson said: “I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“When they said Partey looks like he’s going to Arsenal for £45m, I thought ‘am I missing a trick here?

“He could play for anyone, I look at Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool.”

    PODOLSKI FURY

Former Germany international Lukas Podolski has slammed the treatment of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this season.

Ozil, 32, has not made an appearance for the Gunners since March and he has been left out of the Premier League and the Europa League squad for this season.

Podolski doesn't believe it's right to leave Ozil out of the team after spending several seasons with them.

He said: “I don’t know the background, but I generally think with a player who is now in his sixth or seventh year with the club, to kick him completely out of the squad… that’s absolutely not okay.

“You don’t do something like that, and I don’t know if something happened in the background or not but even if he’s done something, you don’t do it.”

    SAHA SAGA

Manchester United legend Louis Saha has criticised by telling them 'You don't have the same fans'.

Saha was responding to comments from Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Wright recently claimed that if Mikel Arteta was in charge at Old Trafford they’d be competing for the Premier League title.

But Saha has insisted there can be no comparison between his former side and the Gunners.

Saha said: “It is his opinion. We are all here, we can comment. It’s easy.

“It’s easy to compare. Manchester United is not Arsenal, I’m sorry. You don’t have the same fans, you don’t have the same competition to play with. It’s different.”
