Darts' marmite man Gerwyn Price once again stole the show at the PDC World Championship this year.

While Michael Smith lifted the crown after a stunning victory over Michael van Gerwen, the image of the tournament will undoubtedly be Price wearing noise-cancelling headphones at the oche.

The incident has of course made Price a viral star, thanks to a series of hilarious memes, as he continues to split opinion in the world of darts.

His Ally Pally stunt is not the first time he has hit the headline for more than his dart throwing since earning his first tour card in 2014. Here, Daily Star Sport has taken a look back at some of his most mad moments…

    Blocking out the noise

Price stunned darts fans on New Year's Day when he emerged from a break wearing ear defenders in an attempt to block out crowd noise during his quarter-final defeat to Gabriel Clemens.

Despite a strong start, the Welshman appeared rattled after a stunning comeback from Clemens, who was roared on by the crowd inside Ally Pally.

When he re-emerged after the break, Price was donning large earphones, leading to gaps of disbelief from fans and the Sky Sports commentators. It didn't help much as Clemens went on to cause a major upset and the Iceman was sent packing.

His stunt has not gone down all too well, with Price being accused of turning the sport into a pantomime. He has since claimed he may never play at the biggest tournament in darts due to the reception he continues to receive year on year.

    Gary Anderson spat

The Icemen and Anderson famously clashed in the final of the Grand Slam of Darts back in 2018 and relations have not improved over the years.

After appearing to say something to the Scot while he was throwing, Price then over-stepped the mark by getting very close to Anderson and screaming in his face.

Later in the match, Anderson reacted to more jibing by pushing the Welshman and they refused to shake hands at the end as Price emerged victorious to claim the £110,000 prize money.

The pair admitted they did not like each other afterwards before meeting again in the 2021 World Championship final, with Price coming out on top.

Security split Price and Gurney apart

A physical altercation occurred on stage after a fiery Premier League Darts clash in Sheffield back in 2019.

Daryl Gurney was furious after the pair played out a draw as they exchanged some verbal sparring. There was even a spot of pushing and shoving which forced security to come onto the stage to pull them apart.

Gurney did apologise and admitted he over-reacted with Price taking no responsibility, before telling his social media followers: "Life’s to short to have enemies and hold grudges."

    Feud with Peter Wright

There has certainly been no love lost between two of darts' most colourful characters following their semi-final clash at Ally Pally in the 2020 tournament.

More over-exuberant celebrations from Price got a frosty reception from his opponent as Wright refused to shake his hand.

The Welshman did admit afterwards that he was in the wrong but the pair have continued to exchange verbals over the years. Price hit out at Wright for dressing as the Grinch the following year as the pair jostled for the top spot in the world rankings.

At the World Grand Prix earlier this year, Price dismissed Wright regaining the No.1 spot by branding his form 'absolutely rubbish'.

    Van Gerwen handshake refusal

Price managed to upset the main name in darts during a Premier League match in 2020.

Van Gerwen moaned that Price was throwing so fast that he actually managed to touch his arm with his arrows on more than one occasion.

A riled Price then faced the other way as a victorious Van Gerwen attempted to shake his hand at the conclusion of the match. Price eventually relented and offered a fist bump.

The pair mended relationships afterwards although the Dutchman revealed this week that he had told Price he 'didn't have the balls' to wear his famous ear defenders on stage.

    Broken hand mystery

Price suffered a hand injury following the UK Open in 2022 and despite fracturing a bone, competed in the Premier League in Birmingham.

He admitted he should have been in plaster for four weeks but refused to do so as he wanted to be involved in the major events.

That injury also put an end to plans for a charity boxing match in his native Wales, with Price confirming he was pulling out on medical advice.

    Adrian Lewis clash

There was another clash with a famous darts face at the Czech Open last year with more verbal jibing from the Iceman.

Lewis appeared to try and hug Price from behind after a surprise victory but the Welshman lost his cool and quickly removed his opponent's arm from his waist.

After an exchange of words, the pair then went nose to nose before they exited the stage with Lewis appearing to say something in the ear of Price.

Lewis later claimed Price had labelled him 'fat', adding: "He obviously doesn't realise I'm an athlete, that's where he's gone wrong there."
