In a year which has excelled at being full of bad news and sadness, one kindhearted customer managed to sprinkle a little magic.
And delighted waitress Cassie Fischer made sure to spread it a little further with her kindhearted actions.
It's exceptionally tough to work in restaurants at the moment, due to ongoing pandemic restrictions, and many businesses facing closure.
The tough times aren't made easier if servers encounter rude customers, or rubbish tips.
But Cassie, who lives in Sidney, Nebraska, had a very good shift this week, thanks to one customer's kindhearted gesture.
On Server Life, a Facebook group dedicated to people sharing their stories of working in the hospitality industry, she shared the incredible story.
Writing about the experience, which happened last night, she described the heartwarming tale.
She wrote: "Last night I had a couple walk in. I asked if they preferred a booth or table, guy says "as far away from ppl as possible."
"I kinda giggle and look around at our options. His wife mentioned he's immune compromised and will he starting chemo soon.
"So I sit them in a booth away from everyone else (we were pretty slow).
"I told the other waitresses not to sit the booths next to them (didn't have time to explain why) and went on to get their drinks and take care of them.
"One of the other waitresses tried to seat a party at the booth next to them but I quickly fixed that and we had said table move to the other side of the restaurant..no biggie cause we were still kinda slow.
"My couple orders steaks and some wine. I check on them and they're loving everything.
"Wine, food, atmosphere etc. They were the sweetest, not needy, just grateful.
"At the end I drop off their bill and go to the restroom.
"Come back and my bartender says my table is looking for me.
"So I go to see what's up, and the couple wanted me to check them out, ok no probs.
"I wished him good luck with chemo and the future. He looks around as he's writing in the tip and he says "thank you so much for your understanding and taking such good care of us, there's what, 5 of you working tonight?"
"And as I watch him write the tip in…I'm floored and start crying…and agree (there were actually 8 of us) y'all, there are still good ppl out there.
"Sending thoughts and prayers that this man is healed. Just saying."
After receiving the incredible tip, Cassie decided to make sure it went further.
Not only did she split it between the five members of staff the man had seen, she also made sure three other staff members were compensated too.
In a follow-up comment, she wrote: "I split it between 8 ppl. I assumed he wanted it split between the 5 workers he saw, but all of us took a part in making his night.
"Team work makes the dream work."
