American labor nurse is left STUNNED as pregnant Scottish woman showcases her FREE ‘baby box’ stuffed with gifts sent from the government to help prepare for the newborn
- Nurse Jen Hamilton, 33, was awestruck at the no-cost essentials for a new arrival
- Mommy blogger Rachel Clenaghan, 28, received the box at 36 weeks pregnant
- The box is intended ‘to give every single baby in Scotland an equal start in life’
An American delivery nurse filmed her shocked reactions while watching a pregnant Scottish woman open a government-gifted ‘baby box’ offering abundant supplies for the newborn.
North Carolina native Jen Hamilton, 33, appeared awestruck in a new TikTok as she observed mommy blogger Rachel Clenaghan, 28, unpack the contents of the ‘baby box,’ which she’d received free of cost 36 weeks along in her pregnancy.
‘Today we received our Scottish Baby Box, which every family in Scotland is entitled to when they are expecting a baby,’ Rachel began.
‘And it is free from the Scottish Government. So I thought I would unbox it with you guys and show you what came inside,’ she continued.

The outside of the ‘baby box’ is decorated with child-appropriate line-drawings that can be colored in
She went on to highlight that the box itself doubles as a mini-crib, complete with a mattress
Also included are baby clothes, a blanket, towel, wrap, toys, books, two types of thermometers (body and ‘bath and room’), toiletries, fitted sheets for the in-box mattress – and even a ‘sweet poem’
Rachel, who also received a box previously prior to the birth of her first child – now 13 months old – proceeded to explain how the box itself is ‘beautifully illustrated’ with black outlines of various child-friendly imagery, adding that she thinks ‘the whole point is so that the younger family [members] can decorate it for the new arrival.
‘But in my case, I actually might go get my coloring pens out and do it myself, because that is just so tempting to color in,’ she admitted.

Beyond that, the ‘baby box’ comes with various instructional manuals including about breastfeeding and ‘safe sleep.’

Over the course of the clip, Jen’s expressions wavered between escalating levels of amazement and admiration for the scope of the free provisions, aimed at alleviating stress on new parents and establishing a universal standard for the earliest months of life.
All the while, the text ‘(Cries in American)’ floated below Jen’s double-screen TikTok.
‘Honestly can’t believe, we’re so lucky to receive something like this. I feel like it should be available everywhere,’ Rachel concluded.
Many took to the comments to echo Jen’s incredulousness at the extent of the products offered in the ‘baby box’ – particularly as the US government offers nothing

‘Wow, it’s almost like they care about the child after it’s born! Amazing!’ chimed in a third.
‘”So every baby has the same start”… that is absolutely wonderful,’ one gushed of the logic behind the governmental policy.
‘Meanwhile in America.. “I know you just gave birth last week, but will you be coming in to your shift tomorrow??”‘ someone else seethed of the markedly scant maternal leave mandated by the American government.
‘The more I learn about other countries, the more I hate it here,’ yet another American hissed in envy.
Scotland’s official website lays out the logic behind providing every new parent with the baby starter pack: ‘In Scotland, we believe that parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world… With that in mind, we want to make sure that Scotland was the best place in the world to grow up in.
‘That’s why, in 2017, we launched the Baby Box initiative, which is designed to give every single baby in Scotland an equal start in life,’ began a statement explaining the origins of the ‘baby box.’
