Surprise! Watch the trailer for Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’
27th December 2018

It just wouldn’t be the holiday season without a little terror from Netflix’s “Black Mirror.”

On Thursday the streaming service gave fans a belated Christmas gift with the trailer for “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch,” a stand-alone film in the “Mirror” canon, debuting on the streaming service Friday.

The trailer shows what looks like a fairly standard “Mirror” tale, involving a young programmer in the 1980s who is adapting a fantasy novel into a video game, only for fiction and reality to start blending.

“Dunkirk” star Fionn Whitehead leads the film, which is directed by David Slade, who helmed last season’s “Metalhead” episode (and if you watch the trailer closely, you’ll catch a reference to that episode). The subtitle “Bandersnatch,” which is also the title of the novel referred to in the trailer, comes from Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky” poem, which is featured in his novel “Through the Looking Glass.” It refers to a long-legged, fast and terrifying creature.
