‘Irritated’ Suits creator sensationally claims royal family demanded word ‘POPPYCOCK’ be REMOVED from Meghan Markle’s script – because they were worried it’d be edited to sound like she said something crude
- Aaron Korsh, 56, spoke to THR recently about the monarchy’s alleged demands
- When asked how they got ahold of the scripts, he said he couldn’t remember
- In his explosive memoir Spare, Prince Harry also claimed the palace’s communications team ‘advised’ show writers to ‘change’ Meghan’s lines
The creator of Meghan Markle’s popular legal drama Suits has waded into his own real-life drama after sensationally claiming that the royal family insisted the word ‘poppycock’ be removed from her script over fears that clips would be edited to make it sound as though the Duchess of Sussex had said something crude.
Aaron Korsh, 56, the man behind the popular USA show on which the Duchess of Sussex appeared for seven seasons, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how things changed on set after Meghan started dating Prince Harry – as well as the bizarre demands he claims the monarchy made when it came to her lines.
His claims echo those made by Harry, who alleged in his explosive memoir Spare that Suits writers had grown increasingly ‘frustrated’ with the ‘palace communications’ team ‘advising’ on changes to Meghan’s lines.
According to showrunner Korsh, the royal family ‘weighed in on some stuff’ – including what the Duchess of Sussex’s character, Rachel Elizabeth Zane, said in episodes filmed after she and Harry began dating – which he found ‘a little irritating.’
He said there was one particular word that he threw into the script as a tribute to his own in-laws – ‘poppycock,’ which is slang for nonsense – but claimed he was forced to change it after it was allegedly vetoed by the royals because it contained the term ‘c**k.’

He also dished on the the alleged bizarre demands that the monarchy (seen in June 2022) made when it came to Meghan’s lines
Aaron (seen) claimed he was forced to change the word ‘poppycock’ to ‘bulls**t’ after it was allegedly vetoed by the royals because it contained the term ‘c**k’
However, when asked how the palace officials got their hands on the script in the first place, he suddenly drew a blank and said he ‘couldn’t remember.’
He also experienced a gap in his memory when the Hollywood Reporter interviewer questioned who it was that told him she wouldn’t be allowed to say the term in the show.
‘[The royal family] weighed in on some stuff. Not many things, by the way, but a few things that we wanted to do and couldn’t do, and it was a little irritating,’ Aaron explained.
‘I remember one was a particular line of dialogue and, look, I’ll just say what the line was.
‘My wife’s family, when they have a topic to discuss that might be sensitive, they use the word “poppycock.”
‘As a nod to my in-laws, we were going to have [Meghan’s character] say “poppycock.” And the royal family did not want her saying the word.
‘They didn’t want to put the word “poppycock” in her mouth. I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together of her saying “c**k.”‘
Aaron said he had ‘some sympathy’ for the situation because he ‘wouldn’t want someone do that to her either,’ but noted that he was not happy about having to make the swap, revealing that he ultimately changed ‘poppycock’ to ‘bulls**t.’

Aaron (seen with Meghan in 2017) also suffered from a memory loss when the outlet questioned who it was that told him she wouldn’t be allowed to say the term in the show
‘I can’t remember. It might have been the directing producer at the time, or her agent,’ he said, when asked who told him that she couldn’t say ‘poppycock.’ Meghan’s seen in the show
‘I did not like it because I’d told my in-laws that [poppycock] was going to be in the show,’ he continued. ‘There was maybe one or two more things, but I can’t remember.’
When pressed on the subject by the interviewer, Aaron insisted that he ‘didn’t know’ how the royal family ‘got the scripts.’
‘I was aware that they were reading them because I got the feedback, but I don’t remember the process by which they got them,’ he added.
Prince Harry previously confirmed in his book that Suits ‘show writers’ had become ‘frustrated’ over the ‘palace communication team’ forcing them to ‘change lines of dialogue’
He was also unsure who from the royal family had been in contact with the show about the matter.
‘I can’t remember. It might have been the directing producer at the time, or her agent,’ he said, when asked who told him that the Duchess of Sussex couldn’t say ‘poppycock.’
‘Whoever it was, they didn’t like having to tell me any more than I liked having to hear it.
‘When you’re making and running a show, any time that anybody tells you that you can’t do what you want to do, [being irritated is] your initial reaction.’
Buckingham Palace declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail.
Suits aired from 2011 to 2019, but Meghan left after its seventh season in 2017, just months before she announced her engagement to Prince Harry, whom she started dating in 2016.
During her time on the show, Meghan played a fierce lawyer named Rachel, who was determined to make a name for herself after spending years in the shadow of her successful attorney father.
She fell in love with her co-worker Michael James Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams, and the final moments of her story showed the couple marrying and moving away to Seattle together.
In Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, which came out in January 2023, he stated that the ‘show writers’ had become ‘frustrated’ over the ‘palace communication team’ forcing them to ‘change lines of dialogue,’ while reflecting on her decision to part ways with the show.
‘Meg packed up her house and gave up her role in Suits after seven seasons. [It was] a difficult moment for her because she loved that show, loved the character she was playing, loved her cast and crew, and loved Canada,’ Harry wrote.
‘On the other hand, life there had become untenable, especially on set. The show writers were frustrated because they were often advised by the palace comms team to change lines of dialogue, what her character would do, how she would act.’
