DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE been married to an amazing woman for six years.
We are really happy together. The only fly in the ointment is my dad.
I am 28 and my wife is 29. She works as a nurse and I’m a taxi driver.
However, the way dad treats my wife has made me cut all ties.
Now we are in another lockdown he has been in touch, saying we should form a support bubble.
But his version of a support bubble includes his girlfriend and not my wife.
Dad always made it clear he didn’t like my wife, purely because she is Nigerian.
He makes nasty comments about her, gives her filthy looks and ignores her when she speaks.
He was fine with my other three relationships, all white women.
I don’t want to get involved again but also feel guilty. I would find it hard to forgive myself if something should happen to Dad.

DEIDRE SAYS: Current rules state you can only form a support bubble if one household is a single adult, so you can’t form with you dad and his partner anyway.
But tell him that until he changes his racist attitude you are not interested.
Hopefully lockdown will give him time to see how toxic his behaviour is.
You have nothing to feel guilty about.
