Over the past week, the city of New York was treated to a 3-day visit from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but despite Fashion Week dominating the streets of the Big Apple, all eyes were on Meghan Markle and her perfectly put-together autumnal wardrobe.
Since moving to the states, the mother-of-two appears to have ditched royal wardrobe protocol for a more trend-led look – opting for oversized co-ords, relaxed silhouettes and chic workwear, which she demonstrated during her time in the city.
Stepping out in style, Meghan repped big-name brands like Valentino, Max Mara and Loro Piana, but ultimately, it was her styling skills that had us taking notes, as she nailed some of the biggest trends this season in just a few short days.
Here’s some of our favourite looks below and what they’ve taught us about dressing just like The Duchess…
The camel coat
On the first day, Meghan could have been mistaken for a street-style blogger, as she stunned in a classic Max Mara camel coat, with the collar stylishly popped up.
She paired the outerwear staple with a black turtleneck from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s brand The Row, an oversized pair of Valentino shades and a beige city-bag from Valextra.
It’s no secret that Meghan likes to let her outerwear do the talking. She does this by teaming her coats with stripped-back basics and neutral accessories.
The star made headlines for sporting the warm-looking coat in what was deemed to be summer weather, but when your outfit looks that good, who are we to judge?
The Minimalist Staples
For her visit to the One World Observatory, the Duchess kept it simple as she styled the same turtleneck top with some wide leg trousers, with her Aquazzura court heels peeping out from below.
The star teamed the look with a navy Armani coat – a designer she iconically wore for her Opera interview last year.
To make her minimal outfits stand out from the crowd, Meghan focuses on quality clothing and timeless silhouettes. Each piece is visible thanks to its unique shape and style- something we can all take notes from.
Perhaps our favourite look from the trip, Meghan’s oversized burgundy co-ord was unlike anything we’ve seen her in before. The former actress turned heads in the all-red Loro Piana ensemble – which she teamed with her towering Manolos and oversized sunnies.
To pull off this oversized fit, Meghan rolls up her sleeves, which highlights the waistline and gives the look some much-needed shape.
The wow-factor dress
For the pair’s appearance at Global Citizen Live, held at Central Park's Grand Lawn, Meghan put on a leggy display as she donned a £3,300 Valentino dress with a sixties shape, tons of embellishment and capped sleeves.
She paired the frock with some elegant black heels and a low, tousled ponytail, proving to us all how she’s still got her finger on the fashion pulse.
To pull off the shorter hemline like Meghan, we recommend following her example, by opting for a retro, a-line shape for an elegant look. You could even team with sheer tights when the chill sets in.
Which look will you be trying out first this season?
