There’s nothing better than giving a classic beauty look an update, and thanks to TikTok’s latest makeup trend, we’ve found the perfect way to upgrade your red lipstick.
The cherry cola lips have been trending on social media, with #cherrycola having over 6.3 million TikTok views, the #Cherrycolalips has raked in 4.9 million views and counting, making it one of the hottest makeup looks of the summer.
Never one to skip a beauty trend,Kylie Jennershowed off her version of the look over onInstagram, which saw her combining a brown lip liner with red lipstick, before finishing the look with a glossy top coat for the perfect juicy pout.
According toRevolution Beauty, views of the hashtag have increased by a massive 925% over the past 2 months, so it seems we’re all keen to try our hand at the trend. To make sure we nail it, Pro Makeup Artist at Revolution Beauty Mel Trierweiler gave us the low down on exactly how to copy the look.
Mel said: ‘’For the cola tone, start with a brown lip liner a few shades darker than your skin tone such as the IRL Filter Finish Lip Definer in shade Frappuccino Nude, £3.99 here, or the Makeup Revolution Satin Kiss Lip Liner in shade TGIF, £3 here.
“Apply this around the contour of your lips and gently blend it down towards the middle of the lips with your fingers. This will create an ombre effect rather than having one harsh line. My top tip here is to use a longwear lip liner because darker lip liners can be messy and smudged lines are difficult to hide.”
Once you’ve created the perfect deep brown outline around your lips, it’s time for the cherry element of the look.
Mel added: “Next go in with a red-toned lipstick all over the lips. The Makeup Revolution Satin Kiss Lipstick in shade Ruby or Decadence, £5 here, are perfect tones of red to nail the trend.”
Once you’ve applied your lipstick, finish off your look with a lip oil or gloss that has a red hue to it to create an extra juicy jewel-toned finish. Mel recommends the Pro Glossy Plump Lip Oil, £7 here, in the ideal shade – Cherry, or you could use Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss in colour Jaws, £19 here, for a slicker look.
If you’re not a fan of lipstick, you can always skip that stape and go straight for a ruby tinted gloss instead, like Revolve Baby Gloss in shade Babe, £3 here, or swap it for a lip stain such as the benefit Love Tint Fiery Red Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain, £17.50 here, instead.
Although this might be top of our summer beauty list, its red and brown colour combo means it could just as easily word as part of your Autumn makeup routine too, and we are all about a versatile trend!
