The TikToker said that she often gets asked what to do with berries that you have bought fresh, including how to wash and store them
If you’re planning on eating your berries immediately, you can wash them with a salt-water solution, pat them dry and they’ll be good to go. If you want to save them for a day or so, you can pop them in container too
And then, she gave advice on what to do with the berries you have bought in bulk and want to keep them for a later date.
Ms Modic begun the video by saying: ‘A question that comes up every single day is how to keep your berries fresh and how to store them and how to wash them.
‘So I’m going to tell you every single thing you need to know.’
She continued to explain that if you plan on eating your berries as soon as you have bought them, you need to rinse them of any dirt.
But she said that before you do, you need to ‘go through and pull out any mouldy ones, because moisture is the enemy. And if you have a mouldy one and they touch other berries, the rest of them will get mouldy too.’
Once you have gone through and picked out the bad ones from the batch, you can either pop a paper towel into the original container – or a glass container – and put it in the fridge.
And when it is time to eat them, in order to wash your strawberries, or any berries, Ms Modic recommends that you ‘add them to a bowl with a teaspoon of salt.’
You do not need anything fancy, she says, as she covers the salt with water.
‘And just let it sit for five minutes, that’s literally all you need to do,’ she says.
After rinsing them out and patting them dry, you can eat them or store them back in the container with the towel.
If you have a batch of berries you would like to save for a special occasion, a tart or have just had one too many, Ms Modic explains what you need to do to keep them fresher for longer
Pop the berries in your fridge after you have followed the tips, and Ms Modic ‘promises’ that this hack will mean that the fruits will last you two weeks
She added that you should not be afraid of putting salt in, as it does not ruin the taste of the berries.
But if you have a batch of berries you would like to save for a special occasion, a tart or have just had too many in one sitting, Ms Modic has explained what you need to do to keep them fresher for longer.
The influencer said: ‘I’m going to teach you how to keep your berries fresh and perfect in your fridge for two weeks.’
After placing her berries into a bowl, she continued to say: ‘Take your berries and add them to a bowl. Get out some vinegar, I do one cup… to three cups water.
‘The ratio is 1:3, so one cup vinegar, three cups water.’
Ms Modic then let the mixture soak for roughly 10 minutes as she explained that ‘the vinegar gets rid of all the bacteria.’
After 10 minutes has gone by, you’ll need to rinse the berries and then place them on a towel to dry.
Make sure you pat them down well, as she once again reiterated that drying them out is important because ‘as I said in the beginning, moisture is the enemy.’
Once you have dried them, place a paper towel at the bottom of your container, and place the berries on them. And then lay one on top to protect them too.
Pop them in your fridge, and Ms Modic ‘promises’ that this hack will mean your berries will last you two weeks.
She continued to say that this tip works for any berries. However, it will not work if you have bought either ripe berries or mushy ones to begin with.
