Ken Berry, the actor who starred in the TV shows “F Troop,” “Mayberry R.F.D.” and “Mama’s Family,” has died at 85.
Actress Jackie Joseph-Lawrence, Berry’s former wife, took to Facebook to break the news Saturday: “With very deep sorrow, I must inform friends of Ken Berry that he died a short time ago.”
The actor died Saturday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, hospital spokeswoman Patricia Aidem confirmed to The Associated Press. Berry’s cause of death hasn’t been released.
Berry was best known for playing clumsy Captain Parmenter in the western satire “F Troop” during the 1960s. His fellow co-star Larry Storch, who played Corporal Randolph Agarn, sent his condolences to his onscreen commander.
“Dear friends. We are sad to let you know our beloved Captain, Mr Ken Berry passed away tonight,” Storch wrote on his Facebook page. “We are at a true loss for words. Ken, we hope you know how much you were loved. Goodnight Captain. We miss you already.”
