The Kardashian-Jenner family has been itching to break into politics. And now, it’s finally happening. Caitlyn Jenner has announced she’s running for California governor. Jenner, who has teased a government run in the past, doesn’t have any formal experience in politics, though she’s been vocal about her support of the Republican party as well as her support for transgender rights.
Kardashian fans — and the general public — have mixed feelings about Jenner’s inevitable run.
Caitlyn Jenner has announced she’s running for California governor
On April 23, Caitlyn Jenner announced on her social media profiles that she’s officially entering the race for California governor. Jenner, who has been outspoken about her dedication to the Republican party, has also spoken up about the need for transgender rights in the United States.
“I’m in!” Jenner’s announcement read. “California is worth fighting for.” In a separate message, Jenner announced that her campaign will be “powered by everyday Californians who deserve leadership that is accountable to them, not the special interests in Sacramento.”
As of press time, Jenner’s platform was not available on her website, but she’s spoken about her political views in the past. In a 2018 interview with Variety, Jenner made it clear where she stands, noting that she works closely with the American Unity Fund to “get the republican party to do a better job when it comes to all LGBT issues.”
“On the economic side, I’m very conservative,” Jenner continued. “I believe in limited government, I believe in lower taxes, I believe in less regulations. I want a thriving economy.”
Fans and foes alike seem uncertain about Caitlyn Jenner’s ability to run
Jenner’s announcement has already been met with quite a bit of criticism, mostly stemming from her decision to run as a republican.
“No,” one user wrote under Jenner’s Instagram announcement. The comment received hundreds of likes.
“As a member of the LGBTQ community I will NEVER vote for a Trumplican [sic],” another person commented.
“Your political views are in no way progressive and will only hinder the state,” someone else commented.
However, Jenner also had supporters who were excited to see what she could potentially do for the state. “You are so great Cait. You’d be a great governor!” one user wrote.
“Myself as a transwoman you are inspiring me … Get it girl!” another person added.
Are the Kardashian-Jenners supporting Caitlyn Jenner’s run?
As of press time, none of the Kardashian-Jenners had commented on Jenner’s decision to run. Still, they all reside in California and could eventually have to decide whether or not to check off Jenner’s name on the ballot.
Kris Jenner doesn’t have a close relationship with her ex, and Caitlyn Jenner is no longer featured on the family’s reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. However, Jenner’s daughters, Kendall and Kylie, still have a close relationship with her.
It’s unclear how the family feels about Jenner’s run, but when Kanye West announced his run, it didn’t appear to go over too well with the family.
