Joe Jonas channels Bruce Springsteen during VMAs 2019 performance

The Jonas Brothers will always be Jersey boys.

The band pre-taped a performance for the MTV VMAs 2019 at Asbury Park’s iconic Stone Pony event venue on Sunday, the day before the awards show (which took place at Newark’s Prudential Center for the first time.)

While performing beachside, Joe Jonas paid tribute to Asbury Park’s most famous former resident, Bruce Springsteen.

Joe, 30, wore a denim vest with no shirt underneath along with a pair of ripped jeans and black sneakers, channeling The Boss’ most famous look from his days with the E Street Band during the “Born in the USA” tour. The only thing missing was a red bandana.

Brother Nick, 26, wore a more understated chambray shirt and black pants while Kevin, 31, chose jeans and a leather jacket. The trio sang their new singles “Sucker” and “Only Human,” marking their first VMAs performance since 2008.

The Stone Pony has long been associated with Springsteen; not only did he grow up in the area, but he also still often pops back into the venue for surprise performances.

The Jonas Brothers got another New Jersey-specific nod when “Sopranos” actors Vincent Pastore, Drea de Matteo and Jamie-Lynn Sigler presented the group with the award for Best Pop Video.
