I'm pregnant but my boyfriend won't stop cheating – am I better off?
11th March 2021

DEAR DEIDRE: I CAN’T imagine my life without my boyfriend but if he won’t stop cheating, I might have to get used to the idea.

We have been together since we were 17. I fell pregnant a year in but miscarried three months later and we broke up shortly afterwards due to the stress.

But we got back together a few weeks later. He is now 25 and I am 26.

Last month, however, I got a message on social media from a girl I didn’t recognise. She claimed they had been dating since that first split – and had screenshots to prove it.

She was telling me now, after my name popped up on his phone. Before then, she didn’t know I existed.

To make things worse, I have discovered I’m pregnant again. I should be celebrating but I feel like I’m tied to a guy I might be better off without.

DEIDRE SAYS: I am sorry your boyfriend is behaving like this at what should be a special moment.

Be honest. Tell him about the baby and that you know he is cheating. Ask him what is missing in your relationship that means he looks elsewhere.

It will take time to rebuild the trust, so contact Relate (relate.org.uk). Its relationship counselling will help. Even if you decide you no longer have a future together, they will support you through that process.

I am sending you my support pack Unplanned Pregnancy, which will explain your options.
