‘I was kicked out of gym over my rule-breaking outfit – it’s ridiculous’
29th September 2023

A woman who was asked to leave the gym described the situation as "ridiculous".

Kenzie Greaves, who lives the Gold Coast of Australia, was told off over her clothing. She was training without shoes on due to a foot injury, which is apparently against the rules.

The 24-year-old told TikTok: "So I just got kicked out of my gym… I literally have a broken toe with my toenail almost hanging off.

In similar news, another influencer was criticised over her gym attire.

"I'm probably gonna have to have surgery to take it out. So I cannot wear shoes, it's so painful.

"So I'm just wearing slides – like this right. And then every time I walk around the gym I keep my slides on, but when I start my exercise I take my slides off. Because they're awkward to do stuff in.

"And then a man comes up to me and says 'you have to leave because you can't wear no shoes'."

Kenzie claims she explained the situation to the staff member – but they didn't budge on the regulations.

The fitness fan added: "I said 'I can't put shoes on'. I literally cannot. And if I'm that f***ing dumb to drop a weight on my foot then that's my own fault.

"So now I've just been kicked out of the gym I've been going to. Probably going to cancel my membership there because that is so dumb.

"What the hell? It's 2023, if you're that stupid then shame on you."

The video divided opinion on TikTok, where it garnered more than 64,000 views. While some blasted the footwear rule, others pushed back against Kenzie's rant.

One responder wrote: "My gym encourages no shoes!! Better for lifting." Another said: "My PT literally encourages me to take my shoes off and train in my socks."

And a third added: "That's insane. So many take their shoes off to squat etc. But typical poor customer service."

Some were less sympathetic though, with a commenter pointing out: "You become a legal liability it’s not that deep all gyms have this rule."

And a second agreed: "You can’t walk around any business without footwear on."
