‘I tried alcohol-free Captain Morgan Rum to see if I could tell the difference’
20th September 2023

Captain Morgan Spiced Rum is one of my favourite alcoholic drinks. There is nothing I like more than sipping on a Captain Morgan and Diet Coke, or even pouring some into pineapple juice for a fruity treat at the weekend.

So when I got the chance to try out the brand's new non-alcoholic version of the spirit, I had to jump at the chance and pour myself a glass.

When I was pregnant, I was known to enjoy quite a few of the non-alcoholic versions of my favourite tipples and spirits. Whether it's Gordon's 0% gin or alcohol-free Heineken's, you name it.

So when Captain Morgan released an alcohol-free version, it was time to nab myself a bottle. Although I can drink again now, I often like to enjoy an alcohol-free version some evenings due to having a hectic toddler around the house.

Seeing as it's Rum Punch Day today (September 20), I thought what better day to try out the drink, which was launched on September 1. And when I took that first sip, it's safe to say you can definitely taste the difference.

It's not to say other people won't like the tipple as you still get notes of the original Caption Morgan in the alcohol-free version, but for me, it didn't quite sit right.

At first I tried the 0% spirit with Diet Coke and think I may have put a bit much in as I couldn't stomach finishing it off. And as it's Rum Punch Day, I decided to try it with a juice cocktail to see if it was any better.

But I still found the alcohol version to taste a lot better than the 0%. The Captain Morgan Spiced Gold 0.0% Alcohol-Free Spirit comes in at £15, and if you want to go sober, I'd probably suggest another alcohol-free bevvie!
