Huge brawl breaks out in middle of busy road as festive night out turns violent

A mass brawl stopped traffic after breaking out in the middle of a road during a Boxing Day night out.

Police are investigating footage captured by a taxi driver who passed by as the ugly scenes unfolded in Newcastle.

The fight, which involved at least six people, broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The video shows men and women squaring up to each other on the city’s Moseley Street before punches are thrown,

During the violence one man was knocked to the floor where he was kicked and punched before the crowds parted, reports Chronicle Live.

The footage has been passed on to Northumbria Police and officers are now investigating the incident.

A spokeswoman for the force said one man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with injuries.

She said: "At around 3.15am on December 27 we received a report of a disturbance in Mosley Street, Newcastle.

"Officers and emergency services attended the scene where it is believed a number of people had been involved in a fight.

"A man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for non-life-threatening injuries, but later discharged himself.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."

Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to get in touch.

Officers would also like to hear from the people involved.
