Dressing up for Donny! Glamorous racegoers defy grey skies with a rainbow of colourful outfits for Doncaster Ladies Day

  • Revellers descended on the historic Town Moor racecourse in Doncaster this afternoon for Ladies Day
  • The South Yorkshire course saw hundreds of glamorously attired guests arriving as the annual meet began 
  • Course recently enjoyed £34 million redevelopment, with swish facilities including a five-storey grandstand
  • Bright colours were the order of the day, with vivid greens, tangerines and pinks on display 

The skies above South Yorkshire may not have been anything but blanket grey on a rainy September afternoon…but the weather didn’t dictate the colour-scheme for racegoers heading to Ladies Day at Doncaster Races on Thursday. 

The historic race meet welcomed a glamorous carousel of bright colours and extravagant hats – including feathers and fascinators – with many clearly hoping to go home with not just winnings but also one of the event’s coveted style awards. 

Revellers at the four-day meet, which kicked off yesterday, were seen enjoying glasses of fizz and attractions including virtual reality horse racing.

Ladies Day kicked off in style at the Town Moor racecourse, which recently enjoyed a £34million revamp – although spectators arriving in delicate heels had to dodge the odd puddle, with heavy rain forecast this afternoon.

Former models Caprice Bourret, 50, and Jodie Kidd, 43, were amongst those enjoying a day out at the event, officially known as the Cazoo St Leger Festival.

Racing fan Kidd cut a stylish figure in a black and white houndstooth dress with beige and black suede loafers, which Caprice opted for an eye-catching lilac and lime number, teamed with towering nude wedges.

One best dressed racegoer, entering the Style Awards, will go home with a £1,000 prize and bright colours seemed to be the order of the day, with vivid greens, tangerines and pinks on display.

Delicate sheer fabrics also featured on the fashion menu, with these two ladies sporting shades of black and nude

The South Yorkshire town is one of the country’s oldest established centres for horse racing, with meets dating back to the 16th century.
