FKA Twigs Accuses Shia LaBeouf Of Sexual Battery, Assault And Infliction Of Emotional Distress
13th December 2020

FKA Twigs, an English singer-songwriter, dancer, and actress, dated Shia LaBeouf from mid-2018 to May 2019. During that time the artist alleges that the actor was repeatedly abusive, both physically and emotionally, in a lawsuit filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court.

“I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency,” said Twigs, 32, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, who claims she was even infected by a sexually transmitted disease by LaBeouf.

Meanwhile, the actor has not directly denied the claims, stating, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations.”

“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say,” he added.

Twigs, who has listed numerous instances of abuse at the hands of LaBeouf, says the actor choked her while she was sleeping, threw her against a car, sexually assaulted her, and inflicted emotional distress on her. Her allegations have been supported by other women who have dated the actor.

Karolyn Pho said LaBeouf pinned her to a bed and head-butted her while he was drunk. “So much goes into breaking down a man or woman to make them OK with a certain kind of treatment,” she told the New York Times.

LaBeouf insisted that “many of these allegations are not true,” but recognizes that women should have “the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done.” The actor also said he was “a sober member of a 12-step program” and in therapy, writing, “I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism, but I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way.”

LaBeouf has a history of violent behavior. He has been previously arrested for assault and disorderly conduct. In 2015, he was caught on video arguing with his girlfriend, Mia Goth, telling her, “This is the kind of thing that makes a person abusive.” When the men recording the video offered to give him a ride, he said, “If I’d have stayed there, I would’ve killed her.”

In her lawsuit, Twigs, who previously dated actor Robert Pattinson, said she plans to donate any monetary damages to domestic-violence charities. “It was actually very expensive, and a massive undertaking of time and resources, to get out. What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life. I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody,” she added.
