Aurique Review 2021 | The Sun UK
19th February 2021

LOOKING for affordable athleisure wear? Amazon promises to deliver just that with its activewear label Aurique—but does it hold up?

Aurique has been around for a little while now: it made its debut in September 2018 and sits alongside Amazon's other own labels including lingerie brand Iris & Lily, and premium basics line Meraki. The vision? 'Beautifully designed, fashion-inspired activewear'—that all-importantly is reasonably priced. That sounded good to us, so spurred on by our new year's resolution to work out at home more (or y'know, just do a few stretches at least), we decided to put it to the test.

What kind of designs can I expect?

We'll be honest: if you're looking for cutting-edge, hyper trend-led design, Aurique may not be for you. Its strengths lie in simple, no-frills pieces which work perfectly as workout staples that can be mixed and matched with minimal effort.

We're talking lots of block colour, minimal prints and classic tried-and-tested silhouettes, save for a few design flourishes here and there. Basically, it's perfect if you're looking for workout gear that's stylish and looks the part without being overly garish or statement.

What's are the prices like?

Prices tend to sit somewhere between the £10 to £20 mark. The highest-priced item we've seen is a swimming costume for £34.63, so that's probably the most you'll pay.

To give you an idea: our try-on haul of four items came to £69.30 which included a sports bra, vest, yoga trousers and a hoodie.

What did we try?

We picked out four items to make up a full outfit with yoga in mind, but these pieces would work just as well for an at-home aerobics class, a jog around the park or just straight-up lounging.

Here's how we got on:

1. Aurique High Impact Sports Bra

  1. (AD) Aurique Women's High Impact Sports Bra, £19.80 from Amazon – buy here

If you're looking to kit yourself out in gym clobber, it's always best to start with the foundations of course—and the right sports bra is key. Aurique has a good selection to choose from, ranging from low impact to high impact options as well as a range of styles and designs.

Being of the larger bust size, we find that high impact sports bras are a necessity: our only criticism is that we could only find one Aurique high impact option to choose from, whereas there was a bigger choice of colours and styles for lower impact options.

Nevertheless, while it may be a little plainer than we like, we definitely felt supported wearing it. The fabric is comfortable but definitely very taut and was more than suitable for our yoga session.

Based on the support of this, we'd definitely try one of the medium impact designs next for a splash of colour.

2. Aurique Open Back Yoga Vest

  1. (AD) Open Back Yoga Vest in white, from £10.78 from Amazon – buy here

The first time we went to a yoga class, we threw on a trusty loose-fitting t-shirt and assumed we'd get on just fine, only to end up in downward dog with our tee around our neck and our dignity in tatters.

If that sounds familiar to you, you'll know that tops that fit closely to your body are always the best option for yoga—and generally any exercise where you don't want to be hindered by your garments.

We found this vest to be lightweight, comfortable to wear and we loved the elegant cut-out detail on the back which elevates it nicely. We'd have preferred it to be slightly less sheer so that the waistband of our leggings didn't show through, but on the plus side, the mesh fabrication means it's super breathable.

3. Aurique Yoga Hoodie

  1. (AD) Yoga Hoodie in purple dove, £15.50 from Amazon – buy here

This was the Aurique piece we were looking forward to trying the most, and we weren't let down. We loved the seagrass hue of this hoodie but as it wasn't available in our size, we opted for the purple dove colourway which has a cool muted look to it—perfect for natural, laidback looking athleisure style.

Crafted from a soft cotton blend, it feels lovely on, while the flared sleeve makes things feel a little more directional—we'd definitely wear this for adressed-down off-duty look, as well as on a brisk walk.

Now to wait for the seagrass colourway to come back…

4. Aurique Yoga Pants

  1. (AD) Yoga Pants in charcoal, from £17.43 from Amazon – buy here

Ok so for some reason, we were expecting these to be a little more matte at first glance: perhaps we've been wearing our bamboo leggings for too long. However, once we tried them on, we were really impressed with the fit which was snug and secure without being restrctive. Perfect for yoga then.

The slightly bootcut silhouette makes these a flattering and stylish alternative to our usual leggings, the length was just right and we love the subtle logo detailing at the back.

Again, we'd definitely try these in other colours as they're a solid yoga trouser to rival any pricer brand.

What did we like best?

The simplicity of Aurique's designs won us over: it covers all staples you could want from your activewear wardrobe (well, except footwear that is), with classic styles you'll be able to wear whatever trends come and go.

And of course as it's an Amazon brand, it has all the ease and speed of ordering through the retail giant, with Prime delivery across everything.

What did we like least?

Stock levels were a bit hit and miss. Finding our size in everything wasn't always possible—particularly with the more colourful pieces and prints which we would have liked to try.

The verdict

Considering what it promises, Aurique definitely delivers on affordable activewear. We'd have liked to have seen a bit more colour and statement from some of the designs, but for workout staples, they really do hit the mark.

Would we buy from them again? If we needed a garment in a hurry—yes, we probably would, as the quality and fit was a winner.
