The Countess of Wessex, 56, looks effortlessly sophisticated in an elegant floral midi dress in an image that has been released prior to tonight’s programme. Sophie is the only spouse of a Royal Family member who is appearing on tonight’s programme, as the Duke of Edinburgh and the Countess of Wessex were said to have had a very special close bond. She appears on the programme to share stories and fond memories of the Duke, whilst looking sophisticated in a floral midi dress.
When it comes to prints, Sophie never goes wrong with florals. She often wears blooming beautiful dresses by the likes of Erdem and Suzannah.
The Countess of Wessex, for tonight’s BBC One Programme, is wearing a pretty navy midi dress by Etro.
She previously wore this dress with a smart blazer, Penelope Chilvers shoes and a blue clutch bag by Sophie Habsburg during a trip to Scotland in June 2021.
The colours on the dress are incredibly striking, and the gathered detailing on the sleeves is a nice touch too.
Sophie wore this dress on another occasion in early 2020, which inspired royal fans to buy the dress in large numbers, so the £1,325 dress eventually sold out.
However, royal fans can recreate Sophie’s regal look with the options from Monsoon and Suzannah.
Sophie’s ‘Etro floral stretch-silk crepe midi dress’ has an identical version from Monsoon for just £55 in the sale, called the ‘Oriental Print Lace Trim Dress Blue’.
There is also another dupe that royal fans can buy: the ‘Navy Dahlia Italian Cotton Tea Dress Limited Edition’ from Suzannah, for only £395.
Sophie has her hair flowing down nicely on either side of her face, and beautiful eye makeup with brown eyeshadow which really highlights her blue eyes.
The Countess previously paired the look in June with a matching navy blazer, statement silver and amber earrings, a metallic blue clutch bag, and grey heels.
Prince Philip “would have wanted” the Countess of Wessex to be in the spotlight as it helps to “keep his memory alive,” according to royal author Ingrid Seward.
Sophie has often been noted as the monarch’s “favourite” family member and closest confidante.
She was reportedly encouraged by the Queen to fill the gap left by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.
“The Queen is very canny. And she has always been very fond of Sophie,” Ingrid Seward said to The Times.
“Prince Philip adored Sophie, and the Queen feels that now is the moment to push her, just gently.
“‘Give some interviews, do some stuff. You work very hard, no one takes any notice. Get out there!’ I can see her saying that.
“It’s what Prince Philip would have wanted, and now he is gone, doing what he would have wanted keeps his memory alive.
“I think he would have really liked Edward and Sophie to be a bit more high profile.”
This explains why Sophie, Countess of Wessex is the sole spouse of a Royal Family member to appear on tonight’s programme honouring the legacy of Prince Philip, as he had a soft spot for his daughter-in-law.
‘Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers’, is airing tonight at 9PM on BBC One.
