Seiko's Latest Astron GPS Solar Celebrates Its Founder's 160th Birthday
13th September 2020

This year marks what would have been the 160th birthday for Seiko‘s founder Kintaro Hattori, who built the company up from scratch himself, and to commemorate such an important occasion, Japan’s largest watchmaker has crafted a limited edition Astron GPS Solar for the brand’s diehard fans.

Dressed in full black with elegant gold accents, the watch is mainly constructed with titanium under a scratch-resistant coating, making it extremely durable and lightweight. The gold comes in at the 12 o’clock index, the hour and minute hands, as well as one of the three subdials located at 6 o’clock. Turning the watch over, Seiko has fully utilized the watch’s caseback to pay tribute to Hattori, adorning it with the signature “S” logo the founder registered back in 1900 as well as his motto: “One step ahead of the rest.” Running the watch itself is the GPS Solar Caliber 5X53 Dual-Time, which connects to a GPS network twice a day and adjusts your watch for greater precision and accuracy. You can also set your time automatically by the touch of a button if you enter a new timezone.

For those interested, the Kintaro Hattori 160th Anniversary limited edition Astron GPS Solar will be available some time this month, retailing at $3,900 USD and limited to just 2,500 pieces made. Head over to Seiko’s website to learn more.

Elsewhere in watches, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled its 18k pink-gold Overseas watch.
