Meghan and Harry latest news – Queen's TINY mistake on day out with Meghan changed relationship forever, expert claims
7th October 2020

THE Queen's tiny "mistake" during a day out with Meghan Markle changed the pair's relationship forever, a royal expert has claimed.

Just a few weeks after the royal wedding, the Queen invited Meghan to join her for a day of engagements in Chester.

In his biography Battle of Brothers, royal author Robert Lacey claims this was a serious error of judgement as it showed the Queen considered Meghan to be "just a routine royal".

"There is only one self-made millionaire in the Royal Family and that is Meghan Markle. If they had sat down with her at the start and said, “Let’s talk about the things you are interested in”, things might have been different.", he said.

"[But] they just sent her off to watch the Queen opening the Mersey Bridge. There is nothing wrong with that, but they made the mistake of dealing with the spare’s wife thinking she was just a routine royal. She was never going to be a routine royal."

    'STONED TO EXCESS'

Lacey’s book Battle Of Brothers – which has been serialised in The Daily Mail – also claims that Prince Harry began “getting stoned to excess” in 2001 when he was 16 and was allegedly given the nickname “Hash Harry”.

The young prince was taken for a visit to a rehab centre in Peckham, South East London, where he chatted to former heroin and cocaine addicts.

There, Prince Harry was shown the stark “consequences of taking drugs”.

HARRY & MEGHAN 'LEAST ECO FRIENDLY ROYALS'

The couple are the least eco-friendly royals thanks to their jet-setting lifestyle, a survey today revealed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit to South Africa had almost the same carbon footprint as a British person emits in an entire year, according to the shocking stats.

The Save on Energy rankings placed Prince Charles, 71, to have the worst carbon footprint when it came to his travel habits.

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, came second while Prince Philip came in third for his work supporting 40 environmental charities.

A spokesperson explained: “Despite having been awarded points for owning an electric car and Meghan’s loyalty to sustainable fashion brands, Harry and Meghan engaged considerably less than others with environmental charities and engagements between March 2019 and 2020, which hinders their score.

“They also had the third worst carbon footprint of all royals studied.”

    WILLIAM'S TEARS

Prince William wept after mum Diana admitted to adultery on TV, a new book claims.

It says the young royal, then 13, was found slumped on the sofa by his Eton housemaster.

His eyes were red with tears after watching Princess Diana’s 1995 interview with Martin Bashir.

The Panorama interview made headlines around the world after Lady Di admitted she’d fallen in love with Army Officer James Hewitt.

Author Robert Lacey says William refused to speak to Di when she telephoned an hour later.

HARRY FELT FAMILY 'NEVER SPOKE UP' TO SUPPORT HIM

In the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom, it was claimed Harry wanted to feel supported by the Royal Family.

But a source told authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that Harry felt “there were so many occasions” when the Royal Family “could have helped them, stood up for them, backed them up, and never did”.

And while the couple flagged their frustrations with the palace, the book claimed: “These conversations didn't really lead anywhere.”

It's yet another bombshell claim about the couple's lives in the Royal Family, and what made them make the drastic decision to quit.

THIS IS THE PATRIOTIC PRINT MEG HAS IN HER US MANSION

Meg showcased her love of her new home with an “I love you California” print in her Santa Barbara mansion in a recent Zoom chat with the charity Smartworks.

Eagle-eyed fans may have spotted a rather telling piece of artwork in the background.

Hung above the mantelpiece was a print of a bear holding the state of California in its paws, printed with the words “I love you California.”

The words refer to the state’s official anthem which was published in 1913, and later adopted by California 1951 and confirmed in 1987 as the sunshine state’s official song.

THESE ARE THE £20 TIGHTS MEG SWEARS BY

The Duchess of Sussex is said to be a huge fan of Heist tights – and although they are £21, they're worth the hefty price tag.

The nude designs are available in seven different shades and feature a mega comfy waistband that doesn't dig or roll as well as a stronger, eco-friendly yarn.

They're “gravity defining” with no gusset – and therefore no sagging – as well as being seamless, soft and hand-sewn.

The brand also sell a range of other tights, but it's thought to be the nude style Meghan wears, thanks to their mega natural look.

PRINCE HARRY JOINED A HELICOPTER CLUB IN LA

HARRY joined a helicopter club in California in September so he could take Meghan Markle and Archie on family trips, a source claims.

The Duke of Sussex, 36, qualified as an Apache helicopter commander in 2013 but is keen to helicopter licence current up-to-date or it won’t be renewed.

A source told Fabulous: “Harry has joined a local flying club in California so that he can keep his helicopter licence current.

“You know you have to do a number of hours per year otherwise your licence won’t be renewed, and that applies in the US as much as it does in the UK.”

MEGHAN BURNS THIS CANDLE AT HOME

The Duchess of Sussex gave a glimpse into her Santa Barbara home as she spoke to an America's Got Talent contestant on Zoom.

Sitting on the shelf behind Meghan was a £47 Tubéreuse candle from luxury perfumer Diptyque.

According to Net-a-Porter the candle “will envelope your living space with a heady floral fragrance.”

It is also listed as the “perfect new home gift” and it may have been just that given the couple’s recent move.

    SOMETHING IN COMMON

Meghan’s son Archie and Princess Eugenie’s baby could have something in common when the tot arrives next year.

If Eugenie decides to give birth in the same hospital that she was born in back in 1990, then the new royal baby and Archie Harrison will immediately share a similar story.

Meghan welcomed Archie, one, in London's The Portland Hospital back in May 2019.

Meanwhile, Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, were also born in the American-owned hospital.

In fact, when Sarah Ferguson gave birth to eldest daughter Beatrice in August 1988, it made her the first member of the royal family to give birth in a non-NHS hospital.

    MEGHAN’S SNACKING HABITS REVEALED

Meghan has spoken a fair bit about her diet in the past, and confirmed that one of her go-to healthy snacks is watermelon.

In a past interview, she said: “On set and at home, I try to always have a container of watermelon sprinkled with cinnamon because it elevates the flavour just a notch, and makes it feel special.”

The mum-of-one also prefers a healthy drink to gorging on takeaways.

Speaking of her fast food choices, she told The Chalkboard in a past chat: “A green juice. That’s fast. And it’s food. It’s been many moons since I went through a drive thru.”

HARRY & MEGHAN TO SNUB QUEEN FOR SECOND XMAS IN ROW

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to snub the Queen for the second Christmas in a row and spend it with Harry's “surrogate” dad David Foster, according to sources.

The pair are not ready to come back to the UK for Christmas as they're enjoying life in California, it has been claimed.

Meghan is apparently excited to host the Christmas holiday at her home and do the cooking, and the Royal Family is “not in the plan,” according to The Mirror.

An unnamed source told the paper: “Meghan very much wants to host the first Christmas at their new home with her mum.

“She’s really excited and is planning on doing all the traditions she grew up with as a child, including the cooking.

“They’ve also invited David and Katherine to spend it with them.

“David had mentioned Harry and Meghan going to theirs but Meghan wants it at home.

“They want to get on with their new lives. Christmas with Harry’s family is not in the plan.”

    'BASELESS PSYCHOBABBLE'

One British author and presenter has called Robert Lacey's new book 'headline-fodder'.

Libby Perves penned a letter in The Times saying it is “invasive and cruel” to “publish unprovable theories about mental states and relationships they haven’t confided”.

“The royals are constantly afflicted by anonymous or invented insights into private relationships by writers they’ve never once sat down with,” she says.

Perves writes that “Lacey veils his facile conclusions with repeated phrases such as 'must have felt'.”

“He uses tricks such as 'Harry and Meghan were seething as their Air Canada flight made its dawn touchdown', which artfully combines a checkable fact with a mere surmise.

“The Queen’s feelings are ascribed to 'those in the know'. The brothers’ relationships with father and grandparents are stated firmly but entirely unattributably.”

    WILLIAM WEPT

Prince William wept after his mum Diana admitted to adultery on TV, a new book claims.

It alleges the young prince was found slumped on the sofa by his Eton housemaster.

His eyes were red with tears after watching Princess Diana's 1995 interview with Martin Bashir. Di admitted she'd fallen in love with Army officer James Hewitt on the BBC TV programme . Author Robert Lacey says William refused to speak to Di when she telephoned an hour later.

WILLS’ FURY AT MEXIT PLAN BEING POSTED ONLINE

William was said to be furious with Harry for “damaging the Royal Family's reputation” by posting his Megxit plan online.

Sources say William was also stunned at Harry’s decision to throw away his duty and service to the crown, and furious that the Queen had been backed into a corner.

Tensions were also said to be inflamed between the brothers' wives, with Meghan Markle allegedly accusing Kate Middleton of not supporting her in the “dark days” of her pregnancy.

Things reportedly came to a head during one of the Sussex's final engagements, a Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey.

The writers of Harry and Meghan's biography, Finding Freedom, wrote: “Although Meghan tried to make eye contact with Kate, the duchess barely acknowledged her.”

    INSIDER OPINION

Arthur Edwards, Sun royal photographer, said the Palace Press Office asked him what they should do if Harry got a girlfriend and he advised issuing a picture of them to “take the pressure off”.

“They ignored my advice and Harry and Meghan were hounded by the paparazzi because those first pictures were very valuable,” Edwards said.

“So Harry was not speaking to William or the media. The seeds of his discontent were sown.

“Now he’s in Tinseltown, a celebrity among many, and it seems Meghan is making the decisions.

“Thank God for William and Catherine who are supporting the Queen and Prince of Wales more than ever.

“They have put duty first and kept working, making Zoom calls to the vulnerable and hospital visits to thank key workers.

“On the world stage William is already a statesman. It’s clear he will make a fine king.

“I hope one day Harry will keep his promise and come back to support the Queen and his father and heal this terrible rift with his brother.”

    ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENTS:

By Arthur Edwards, Sun royal photographer

Prince Harry once said in a TV interview that his main role in life was to support his brother when William became our king.

But it seems that since he met Meghan Markle his purpose in life has changed and that promise is broken.

He appears more interested in money-making ventures such as his big Netflix deal.

I remember when he and William were inseparable and totally devoted to one another.

I photographed them as young boys having so much fun on a trampoline at Balmoral.

Later they would play football and you could see the great love between them, despite the crunching tackles on each other.

Being older, William looked out for Harry, helping him avoid the pitfalls he had already faced as a prince growing up outside the cloistered world of palaces and courtiers.

That bond was strengthened when their mother died.

Watching them walking behind Diana’s coffin in 1997, pictured, you would never have thought they would end up not speaking — and it all happened the day after Harry met Meghan Markle.

    SURROGATE MOTHER

In the book Battle of brothers, Mr Lacey also claims the boys' nanny Barbara Barnes acted as a surrogate mother due to Diana's health concerns and humanitarian commitments, with Ms Barnes teaching them to walk, talk and read.

She was later dismissed without being allowed to farewell the young princes.

Mr Lacey writes: “Following the death of Diana in 1997, people remarked on how well the two young princes reacted to the unjust and unexpected removal of a mother figure from their lives – surprised, bewildered and distraught though they were.

“In fact, ten years earlier, they'd had a little practice.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the claims.

RIFT STARTED AFTER NAZI COSTUME ROW

Prince Harry and William's royal rift started 15 years ago after Harry was pictured in a Nazi costume, a bombshell book has claimed.

Battle of brothers alleges Harry felt “resentful” after being criticised for his costume while his brother, who helped chose the outfit, wasn't.

The siblings went to Maud's Cotswold Costumes in January 2005 where William chose an animal outfit and Harry chose a khaki-coloured uniform.

The duke was later photographed wearing the uniform complete with a swastika armband, causing “public outrage,” according to royal biographer Robert Lacey.

    'INCANDESCENT'

Prince Charles was described as being distraught when Harry and Meghan announced in January they were quitting for a life in Canada.

Harry and Meghan had returned from a winter break on Vancouver Island wanting to sit down with senior royals to try to engineer their way out.

Dad Charles was described as “incandescent with rage” and William “blindsided”.

Within two days Meghan had returned to Canada to be with baby Archie.

The Sandringham summit was arranged for Monday, January 13 where Harry would finally speak with the Queen, Charles, William, and their aides.

Five days later on Saturday January 18, Buckingham Palace confirmed “Megxit”.

    'TRAUMA THAT CHANGED THE MONARCHY'

Author Robert Lacey dramatically wrote about the rift between Harry and William.

“If this breach between the brothers is not healed in some way it will come to stand with the 1936 Abdication crisis and the 1997 death of Diana as one of the traumas that changed the monarchy,” he said.

A source said of the Megxit rift: “Harry hadn’t even had a meeting with the Queen to talk through their plans before announcing it to the world.

“The monarchy is an institution based on hierarchy and respect — something drummed into those boys growing up.

“What Harry did drove a horse and cart through royal protocol — putting their plans on Instagram and their website first.

“There was a moment in January when it could have been sorted out amicably. But this was a betrayal of his grandmother that William has struggled to understand, and their relationship remains strained.

“William loves his brother deeply. This is why it is so hurtful to him.”

    'MUPPETS CRAVING ATTENTION'

Kate Middleton's uncle has blasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “muppets” – telling them to “shut the F up”.

Gary Goldsmith unleashed a scathing online message to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – criticising them for “craving attention”.

In the now-deleted LinkedIn post, the brother of Carole Middleton blasted: “With so much stuff going on in the world, still these two muppets are craving attention.

“Please shut the F up and bring up their child and stop talking, let alone demanding.

“Harry you have lost our love and respect.

    “Meghan you are a wrong'n.

“Now hush please we are kinda busy saving lives and an economy.”

QUEEN 'LEFT OUT PIC' OF HARRY & MEGHAN IN XMAS SPEECH

The Queen deliberately left a photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle off the table during her Christmas speech, a bombshell book has claimed.

The new book Battle of Brothers alleges their relationship was “utterly broken” by Harry’s “disrespect” and the pair have barely spoken since.

Robert Lacey, the author, wrote that the absence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's photograph on the table during Her Majesty's speech was “deliberate.”

He wrote the couple had been “non-personed”.

In the excerpt, which has been serialised in the Daily Mail, Mr Lacey wrote: “The absence of a single Sussex from the 2019 assemblage of significant royal faces in the Queen’s Christmas broadcast appeared to reflect a deliberate decision on her part.

“She would be providing no brand endorsement opportunities this year for Sussex Royal.”

    HARRY & MEGHAN ENDORSE BIDEN

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle controversially endorsed President Donald Trump’s rival Joe Biden last Friday.

Members of the Royal Family are supposed to be politically neutral.

The couple were swiftly criticised for speaking out about American politics.

KATE'S BROTHER TAKES SWIPE AT PM

The Duchess of Cambridge’s brother has taken a cheeky swipe at Boris Johnson.

James Middleton said he didn’t understand the Government’s ‘Rule of Six’ measures to combat the second wave coronavirus.

The 33-year-old younger sibling of Kate posted a photo of his seven dogs to his 194,000 Instagram followers.

The entrepreneur said: “The only thing I understood from Boris trying to explain the new restrictions is that the rule of six doesn’t apply to dogs!”

He included the hashtags ruleof6 confusing and boris.

    QUEEN'S SECRET PLAN REVEALED

The Queen had a secret plan for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to live in Africa for a year, an explosive new book has claimed.

The 94-year-old monarch realised not enough had done to come up with a role for their newest Royal Family member Meghan Markle that suited her “unique identity and talents”, Battle of Brothers reported.

And author Robert Lacey claimed Her Majesty had been inspired by her own enjoyable time in Malta for the idea of Meghan and Harry heading to Africa.

In an extract released to the Daily Mail, the author said: “The big idea was to get Harry and Meghan out of the country for a decent spell. It would give everyone a breather.

“The Queen wanted to offer both honour and responsibility to the couple by handing them some role in her beloved British Commonwealth of Nations — a highly personal token of trust.”
