Sustainable fashion: It’s as hot as, um, global warming. This 2019, resolve to shop smarter with these planet-friendly brands.

Eileen Fisher

Eileen Fisher was doing sustainable fashion decades before it was A Thing. The 34-year-old brand uses organic fabrics and makes much of its clothing in US-based factories.

This boutique’s $75 cashmere sweaters are incredibly soft and ethically made. Its factories run on renewable energy, such as wind and sunlight, while the sweaters’ yarn is hand combed from goats (rather than painfully cut away).

“Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. We’re #2” is Reformation’s catchy tag line. The brand uses deadstock and eco-friendly fabrics to create flirty dresses and tops for its Instagirl fans.

Brother Vellies

This winner of the 2015 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund works with African artisans to craft chic, handmade shoes and bags.

Everlane makes a point of telling the consumer where and how they make their products. For example: Their ethical denim factory, located in Vietnam, is LEED-certified and reuses 98 percent of its water.

France-based sneaker brand Veja — beloved by everyone from Meghan Markle to Emily Ratajkowski — is made with fair-trade materials, including organic cotton, natural rubber and fish leather.

Mara Hoffman

Most of Mara Hoffman’s ready-to-wear pieces are manufactured in the US from natural fibers. Her chic swimwear line is made from 100 percent recycled nylon or polyester.
