Members of the Royal Family have extensive collections of both private and family jewels. Pearls and diamonds are a popular choice of jewellery among royals including Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth II.

Kate Middleton will usually accessorise her outfits with earrings, necklaces and rings.

The future Queen Consort was given her first piece of sentimental royal jewellery when she became engaged.

In 2010, Prince William gave the Duchess the sapphire and diamond engagement ring which once belonged to Princess Diana.

Since then, Kate has proudly worn it nearly every time she has stepped out.

She sports it with a Welsh gold wedding band, made from the same gold as the wedding rings of the Queen, Meghan and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The Duchess of Cambridge also has a rose gold ring which was thought to be a present from Prince William when Prince George was born.

Over the years, Kate has adorned herself in jewels from both her private collection and the royal collection.

The mother-of-three also seems to have taken style inspiration from the monarch.

Like Queen Elizabeth II, Kate has regularly worn pearls and diamonds.

Diamond expert at Austen & Blake Anthony French explained the popularity of the jewels among royals.

He said: “Diamonds and pearls – the epitome of royal jewels – have been seen paired together on many of the royals including the Queen, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton over the years.”

Members of the Royal Family have styled the iconic jewels in different ways.

“Often worn together when tending to their formal affairs, female royals have paired them in a number of ways,” Anthony said.

“Meghan has been seen in a pair of white gold diamond and pearl earrings.

“The Queen is often seen wearing a string of pearls around her neck, accompanied by a diamond brooch.”

When royals such as Kate have donned diamonds and pearls, the expert suggested they give a strong message that can be copied by anyone wearing the jewels.

He explained they can add “class” to an ensemble and help “impress”.

Whilst your formal gig might be a little different to those attended by the royals,” Anthony said, “pairing diamonds and pearls might just give you the classy edge you need to really impress your peers.”

Pearls have been worn by royals at all types of engagements over the years.

However, they are commonly worn by all royal women when attending a funeral.
