Get your glam on this Christmas and New Year with sparkly high street showstoppers and our expert make-up tips
23rd December 2018

We get the experts to share the best high street make-up picks to keep you glimmering on the dance floor and wowing friends at New Year.

Let loose. “If you’re using a loose glitter shadow, make sure you’ve got something under it to make it stick – cream shadows or lash glue work well,” says L’Oréal Paris global make-up director Val Garland.

Nailed it. “If you don’t want an all-over glitter mani, go edgy with an accent nail for a more subtle look,” says OPI nail expert Jenni Draper.

The high/low. Not ready to go full-on disco? “Pat a favourite highlighter over a cream lipstick in the centre of your lips for a soft, multi-dimensional look,” advises Urban Decay creative artistry manager Danielle Roberts.

Party's over. “At the end of the night, removing products can be a messy job, but using a little facial oil or an oil-based remover helps loosen the adhesive and lift the pigments off the skin in no time,” says Danielle.

Jeepers peepers! “To really pack on the sparkle, use a flat, domed brush to add pigment, then blend with a fluffier brush to soften the edges,” advises Val.

While it's true that nude lipsticks are much less maintenance than a bright pigment, nothing says Christmas like statement red lips.

If you're struggling to find one that works, try Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored, £19.

I've yet to see someone who doesn't look great in this super-bright red, plus the matte texture means it will stay put all night.

However, if full-on matte isn't your bag, start with something a little more sheer like Avon Mark 2-in-1 Lip Tattoo in Give Me Heat, £9.

This deep-red stain and lipstick in one comes in the form of an ultra-precise felt-tip nib applicator, so you never have to worry about it getting on your teeth during the festivities.

Perfect for a cheeky kiss under the mistletoe!
