Victoria Beckham, 48, is eagerly awaiting this year’s Met Gala, which will pay tribute to one of Chanel’s most iconic designers, Karl Lagerfeld.

The fashion legend died in 2019 – but not before ex-Spice Girl Victoria’s photo op with him at Coco Chanel’s first ever branded store in Paris.

She posed on the staircase at 31 rue Cambon over a decade ago in an all-black ensemble that would have made Coco herself proud, and still seems to have fond memories of the moment to this day.

The ultra-chic black and white vintage style images, one of which allowed Victoria to show off her long legs in a tiny pair of hot pants, were subsequently posted in Vogue magazine.

Declaring him a “genius” and sharing a host of other pictures of the pair together, she gushed: “I can’t wait to see this year’s Met exhibition honouring one of fashion’s most celebrated visionaries.”

Never short of praise for the star, she told almost 31 million Instagram followers that she was posting the montage of pics in his honour ahead of the eagerly anticipated gala.

“Karl Lagerfeld was a genius and always so kind and generous to me, both personally and professionally,” she reminisced.

“He had a sense of humour like no other – he really was one of the funniest men in fashion!! – and inspired us all with his artistic talents and vision.”

She clarified: “It was a dream come true to be photographed by him in 2012 on Gabrielle Chanel’s famous staircase at 31 Rue Cambon, Paris.”

Not everyone was a fan of Karl, due in part to some comments he made about women’s weight in the past.

On one occasion, he apparently called Set Fire To The Rain songstress Adele “a little too fat”, which sparked outrage, and was compelled to set the record straight in a later interview.

“I never said that she was fat. I said that she was a little roundish; a little roundish is not fat,” he told CNN afterwards.

“But for such a beautiful girl, after that she lost eight kilos [17.6 pounds] so I think the message was not that bad!”

Despite the controversy surrounding Karl, he was still regarded as a fashion icon by many.

Meanwhile, he made it clear that he reserved some of his strongest affection for his fluffy white cat, Choupette, whom he pampered and treated like a miniature princess.

“There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals,” he lamented, adding: “I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat!”

Kim Kardashian posted some Instagram snaps with the famous cat himself inside Karl’s office last week in preparation for the gala, seeming to silence rumours that she may not have been invited.

Gwyneth Paltrow, on the other hand, won’t be coming if her comments a decade earlier are anything to go by – the Goop founder called the event “so unfun” and stated to USA Today she’d never attend again.
