Sweet moment Kate and William were left in stitches thanks to mum Carole at Wimbledon
6th July 2022

Prince William and Kate Middleton made an appearance at Wimbledon on Tuesday to watch day nine of the iconic tournament.

But as the royal couple watched on they became distracted by Kate's mum, Carole Middleton, who playfully stuck her tongue out at them.

Her daughter, 40, and son-in-law, also 40, who were spectating from the Royal Box, were left in fits of giggles as they noticed the funny moment before they got stuck into the game.

Kate looked stunning in a blue polka dot gown, which she teamed with a small white handbag and matching white heels.

Her gorgeous brunette locks fell down her back with a slight wave. She was also sporting a green and purple ribbon, in a nod to her role as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Kate became patron for the club back in 2016, after taking over from the Queen, who had previously held the title for over six decades.

The Duke and Duchess were separated from Kate's parents during a hotly contested match featuring Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, and Italian player Jannik Sinner.

But in a sweet gesture, as soon as she had caught sight of her parents, the future Queen consort blew a kiss to her parents while smiling brightly at the pair.

The adorable moment was even caught on camera, with the affectionate scenes broadcast around the world, as she blew the kiss and waved at her mum and dad, before saying hello and engaging in a small but discreet amount of conversation.

Also spectating the match and able to engage in light conversation with the royals was comedian David Walliams and his mum, Kathleen.

David and his mum chatted and laughed with the royal couple as they took their seats directly behind them. Kathleen seemed overjoyed to be able to meet with William and Kate, and could be seen beaming as she chatted with the Prince.

Members of the public who also attended the match noted their surprise at seeing the royals.

One tennis fan told The Independent: "It is really nice to see the famous people sitting watching tennis next to us."

Another described the "royal buzz" to the day, added by the couple's appearance.

The outing marks the first royal appearance at Wimbledon in 2022, with the tournament set to finish on Sunday, July 10.
